I had one for quite a while, but sold it a couple of years back. Mine was an Ibanez RG copy - red with black p/guard, H-S-H, chrome licensed Floyd, maple fretboard, neck heel was slightly rounded on the treble side for easier access.

It was a decent enough guitar, especially considering I bought it for $40. I sold it for $100 to help finance my US Fusion.

Once I started buying Jacksons & Charvels, I just never played the Vester. The neck didn't seem very Jackson like to me either. It was quite thick, not Les Paul thick, but thicker than any of my Charvel Models (IIRC), and waaaay thicker than my Jackson Fusions.

ps. forgot to add - it was made from "bonded tonewoods"

And as far as people knowing of them, they used to advertise quite a bit in the guitar mags in the early 90s. Neckthrus, crackle finishes, graphics.

There were some very nice neck thru Vesters IIRC they were made in the Matsumoto(sp) plant in Japan along with the Westones.
            Really? well screw Mark Twain.

A friend of mine had a trans amber Vester Dinky copy. Unless it had a wraparound veneer, it didn't look like plywood. It played quite well too, didn't run it through an amp though. I don't really remember it being more or less resonant as compared to say my DK2S.

As for necks, I dunno. There are definitely differences, but I don't dwell on them much, unless the action's too high to play or something. I have a classical that I plink on from time to time, so a fat wide neck doesn't bother me if the action's fairly low.

But I'd say even if the bodies are plywood, the necks are nice enough to use on a project body. You could take the logo off if you're self-conscious about such things.

I had one back in the late 80's early 90's. I don't really remember to much about it except it had one hum at the bridge a two single coils. I kind of remember that it had a buit in boost and a bunch of other switches. It was hot pink!!!

Zeg I never said Matsumoku made plywood guitars.Years ago I did a refin on a12 string neck thru Vester and it WAS NOT plywood.Looked like a maple neck thru with basswood wings, could have been alder who knows.
In 85 I bought a Westone pantera X350 neck thru curly maple top ebony fingerboard quite a nice guitar.Love the Jap Westones.

My point was that Vester guitars were never made by Matsumoku. The Matsumoku factory closed up in 1986 or 87.
