The 500xl is brighter and has better clarity then the X2N. The X2N has more gain. I like the X2N better as an overall pickup but not in this guitar though. The 500xl is a perfect pickup for these IMO.

        From the Washburn site:

        1. What year was my instrument or unit* manufactured? By looking at your serial number, the first two numbers* in most cases will indicate the year of manufacture, For example, 8901827, indicates the unit was made 1989. In some rare occasions, such as limited edition models, please feel free to contact Customer Service at 1-800 US SOUND x5120. Also check our Guitar Archives.

*Some serial numbers have been printed with just a single number to identify the year. If your guitar's serial # begins with 240000, it most likely is a 1982 or 1992 model.

Mine has a serial starting with "111xxxx", that suggest that it's a '91 and the fact that black was available for a limited time confirms it.

Jeri, Vic & Joe, I'll try to get some pics up as soon as I can
        Hail yesterday
