  • i declare the new "ebay bang for the buck" guitar is...

the OLD (MOP logo + gold "nj series") bc rich nj series guitars. i've picked two of them up over the past couple of months, and they're fuckin' great. most recent arrival was today; refinned metallic black, BCR badass bridge, 3/3 headstock, 3 piece maple neck (w/some birdseyes). $180 shipped. there's a blue mockingbird up on the bay now, it's been listed a couple of times at $150. get it while you can. these were pre-agathis and nato bodies (both of my warlocks are maple).

Right on, Sully, hey did they make Stealths in that series? If so, will you look for one?

Now you are getting smart. I will say it again and again, buy the $200 or less guitars. That's not going to make our J/C people , buy a new guitar, happy. But, you are. And that is all that counts.

you shoulda bid on it, dude....opening bid was 135, and my high bid was 145 or something close to it. i was shocked that no one had bid on it. the shipping was brutal, if it's any consolation. that case was a home made project and it was all wood. fuckin heavy. he did a nice job on it, but it's heavy.

one thing that i've found very interesting is the difference in construction between the two that i have. they're the same model year (84), but one has a 3 pc maple neck with a thicker profile, and the other has a no scarf joint mahogany neck (that was originally painted) with a very thin profile. they have 2 different neckplate sizes, too. both bodies are maple, which is also kinda neat. you gotta sift through a lot of crappy bronze series models, but these are two pretty nice guitars.

Your behind the curve there buddy, those old NJ guitars have always been killer, or rather its never been any secret to me! The old NJ's were made in Japan if I remember correctly? Either way incredible value.

dunno if i'm behind the curve, considering i had my first one in 1985...
but i'm glad that i found the ones that i've scored recently. and yes, they were made in nagoya, japan (hence the nj term). my whole point was that imo, these things are great to get while you can still get them for under 250. kinda like how the model series charvels used to be screamin' deals (before models 1s were in the 300s)

Go check the Kramer Guitar site. My Kramer Special has like 3 body woods. Mine is a heavy one. USA and all that, but the variations are stunning and it's all there. The BC's could have the same. Don't tell anyone or they won't be sleepers for long.

Yes, but bolt-on. The shape is quite different (neglecting the U-Series). And they don't balance as well as the real thing.
