B.C. Rich

I own a B.C. Rich Ironbird Platinum Series, it has 2 humbuckers, 1 volume/1 tone, a 3 way switch, I was wondering if anyone has played one of these and what they thought about them also I was wanting to know how the sound would change if I put some EMG,s in it, it also has an extra switch what I think is called the tap coil selector I was wanting to know what this is used for.thanx.

Platinums are about par with some older bolt on NJ series IMO. They're not bad.. they're not US BC Rich's quality either.

well thanks for teling me that my main guitar is a piece of crap, just kiddin I plan on buying another guitar soon I was thinking about either a Gibson Explorer or Flying V and loading it up for METAL or maybe I might go for it and get an ESP Kirk Hammett Sig. But I would still like to know what that extra switch on the B.C. Rich is for.

Get yourself an older Gibson, if you want a good one, but I'd stay away from the Kirk Hammett unless your going USA. As for the switch.... eh.... what sound difference can you hear? If it's a coil tap, it'll go from hum. to single coil.

it kinda sounds like it boosts my volume a little and thats about it...also if I got a Gibson Flying V and wanted to put a set of EMG 81's in it would the battery be able to go into the body cavity or would it require some cuting..

If you want a guitar for metal, that doesn't need pickups swapped out etc, look on Ebay. There are tons of good deals on used Jacksons.

ok what are the pros and cons on a Jackson over a Gibson Flying V with EMG's. Not trying to make it sound like I am trying to say the Gibson is better but I would like to know to make a better decision.

Any V shaped guitar is hell to play sitting down,standing up no problem.Jacksons are a lot sturdier than a Gibson IMO I do love them both.Body woods have a lot to do with the tone of the guitar,true with EMGs thats not really a factor.
It seems to me you are "looking" for some thing "metal looking" rather than trying to find a guitar that is metal sounding.The metal sound is a wide range of sound so what sound are you trying to find?Remember the amp you use is a big part of the equation.
I'm not ragging you just curious as to exactly what it is your looking for.What are your tastes?

well the guitar doesnt realy matter even though I would like to stay around Gibson, Jackson, or ESP, but I would like top of the line. Well as far as amps go once I get enough money im going to try and get a Marshall Silver Edition Package.Tone, I would like to have any of Metallicas tones, as in the older albums, as that is most of what I play...

umm...to get metallica's tone you might better look into mesa boogies and not marshalls...but...i would recommend you worry about finding your own voice instead of worrying about trying to copy someone else's tone...because a lot of any player's tone also comes from how they attack their instrument, not just the equipment they use...d.m.
