Actually, I've gone the opposite direction. I used to love Ibanez, until now......
I was in high school when the Jems, RGs, 540 series, etc., came out and loved them (I even still have a '88 catalog). But as I played various models, either from friends or at stores, I realized that what I liked were the looks and maybe the features. I tried everything - Jems, RG550s, 540Rs/Ss, and even a UV77MC when they were new (fall '90 at Chuck Levin's). But I still liked my Model 6 better. I never ended up buying an Ibanez and stopped playing around '92. When I picked it up again in '02, I kinda went on a GAS-spree over the next couple years and bought various guitars that I always wanted in H.S. but couldn't afford. Including a couple Ibzs. I wanted to try the 7-string thing, so I got a RG7420. And I still wanted a Jem, so I tried a 7VBSL and later a 7VWH. I have none of them now. They just don't work for me and now I just look at them and appreciate them but don't GAS over them.
