Thanks. From what I understand, they made very few P1's with the multi color pickups and supposedly these were earlier made models.

My favorites are the Prolines from back in the day.
My JPM P2 was nice, but I got over it rather quickly.

Hello, as a long time Charvel/Jackson disciple I never was attracted to anything Ibenez. Last year I picked up an SZ model on the bay for cheap--put in a Seymour Duncan Distortion model in the bridge position, and did a basic setup. Its a pretty good guitar--I like it--not bad for a cheapy from Korea.

At least it`s not a cheapy from Indonesia or China!

The SZ`s are pretty nice imo!

Ibanez guitars absolutely rule in my experience. The RG550 and 570 have to be the best all round rock guitars ever for the price and the Jem7vwh is the match or better than any guitar I have ever played.
All men play on 10. Never gonna turn down again.

I am the opposite of most. First Ibanez I owned was the Blue Floral Jem.
I have played a bunch of their shredders so I will be referencing only their shredder guitars here.

Comfort wise I like Ibbys BUT the necks on the shredders are too thin for me.
Second I think they absolutely suck in the tone department for many reasons. Not enough mass perhaps, the neck joints are "iffy", don't like many of their pups, scarf joints in the neck, thin bodies and necks
                  .
I read the Ibby forum and even with the top of the line Prestige and J-Customs guys are putting things in the trem cavities and changing the pick ups to get better tone - cause they have a thin tone. Also I have read articles regarding the quality of the wood they use. I think some of the high end guitars use fairly good wood but I don't think it is the norm.

Its just a personal thing I guess I just don't think they sound as good as other guitars in general and I think their quality is lacking. They make a lot of nice looking guitars though. Wish Jackson had some of those finishes.

I have read the finest Ibanez shredders made came out of the USA Custom shop.

                    Petrucci P1

                    USA Custom Shattered Glass

The P1 looks mint. Great guitar. always wanted to have 1.

I got rid of my S540 because I just couldn't gel with the neck. Great sounding guitar, but the neck was cramp inducing small. I agree modern ones aren't very good; I played a JS1200 at guitar center and had some of the cheapest looking and feel hardware I had seen, and it was a tone dud. Same thoughts for their RG1570.

It`s funny how different peoples opinions can be. Not just with Ibanez guitars but everything. Out of 10 people 5 can think Ibanez are some of the best and the other 5 think they suck! I personally think they are the best metal guitars out there! I have a Prestige S2170 and i`ll put that guitar up against anything!

The Ibanez Shattered Glass I posted above is a USA Custom. Interestingly, I don't think even the USA Customs were really built here in the US entirley. I forget their history exactly but one of the guitar mags last yearhad a story on Ibanez that explained it. Anyway, this Shattered Glass Ibanez I have is my guitar with absolutely the lowest action of all my axes. However, I still hardly ever play it at all, I still prefer the feel of my Jacksons over both Ibanezes.

Thanks. I got it about 4-5 years ago and I had a hard time finding it. The P1 is difficult to find but the other versions are a bit easier to get.

My understanding was the bodies came shaped, with a humbucker route pre cut. Might of come with a Edge route by default too. The necks came pre cut with only the inlays needing work. This is all going off memory of what I read somewhere though, and the only thing I know for sure is the bodies came shaped and with one humbucker route.

I was wondering how many posts it would take before someone said exactly what I said. However, Ibanez has always been quite good at building other companies' designs with different feels etc.
My Duncan Designed pickups are way better than Seymour Duncan regular pickups you fanboy.

Yeah...too bad the forum doesn't have a minimum IQ.
