  • Les Paul EMG's

Does anyone know how the Legendary Les Paul sounds with a set of Dual EMG 81's. Also where would the battery go and how hard would they be to install.

They sound fine, and the battery fits easily in the control cavity. I love the EMGs in my all mahogany Les Paul Studio (85 bridge and 81 neck). I think the 81 is a little too bright for the bridge. The 85 in the bridge rules with either an 81 or 60 in the neck.

I had an 85 and 81 in my LP Classic, it was ok but I pulled them and went back to passives.

I still love the EMG's in my LP. I usually put the 85 in the bridge like Joe does but in this guitar the 81 still rocks in the bridge and the 85 is in the neck, ala Mr Wylde.

The first time I saw/heard a les paul (it was a les paul custom I guess) with an emg 81-85 set on it I was really blown away! That thing still had that huge les paul tone, with all the clarity and gain you get with the emg's as a plus. Then I decided to try out emg's and now I seem to like them...

I have a set in my 75 custom (maple fretboard) and love them. I also bought the 81/85 but I use the 85 in the bridge and will probably replace the 81 for the neck. I'm still not sure if the body & neck wood effects the sound of an EMG but I swear with the maple/maple combination, the 85 sounds brighter.
            +1 for EMG's/LP!
No honey, I have always had this Jackson....

Of course the wood affects the sound of every pickup, even EMGs.

I am planing on getting a set of dual 81's to put in a Les Paul (whenever I get it) the only thing I wasnt to fond of at first is that its going to be an Epiphone but im sure it will sound great. I have played 2 guitars with EMG's, it was a ESP Kirk Hammett sig. (I just love metallica) and an ESP EC 30th anniversery with the ebony fretboard and EMG 81 and 85 combination and I fell in love with the EMG's so I think I will be very happy when I put them in the Les Paul.

I like the way that they sound for metal. Here is an '81 LP with EMG 81/85 and a kalher:

I prefer the 85 in the bridge also, but have never found the 85 to be more bright than an 81, but I guess anything is possible I have been really jonesing for a LP Standard Raw Power, but for the price, I will wait for them to blow them out or something Jack.

That is a Beautiful Les Paul and the black EMG's just make it look even better, I wish I could afford a real Gibson. How does it play, I bet it sounds beautiful.

Thanks. Because of the kalher mod it was actually very reasonable off of ebay so I got lucky (I wanted a kalher!!!). I had it pro re-fretted etc. and I have to admit that neck shape and weight aside, it plays as well as my old s-head charvels. Neck is also rock solid - no movement is years. Huge rythm sound. Its a keeper.

Did it come with the EMG's already in it or did you have to get them installed, and if you did have to put them in yourself how difficult was it if you didnt put them in yourself how much did it cost to get them put in.

Here's my "Vintage Mahogany" faded cherry Les Paul Studio. I took out the BB Pro pups and put in EMGs... chrome 81 (25th anniversary) in the neck, 85 in the bridge, also added the TP-6 fine-tuning tailpiece.
