  • YJM strats

I did a search here and found a couple of good reviews but they were old and missing pics. Since my soloist was sent back to Jackson and the wait will be loooooooong(from what I've read) to get a replacement, I am considering a YJM to hold me over. I've owned a few HS-3 loaded strats before but never a YJM. Anyone have a new one? The reviews at MF are stellar, any pics/reviews would be appreciated!

I bought my USA YJM in 2003. It is a very fine guitar. I've posted pics in some past posts. I changed the "Mint" guard and pickup covers for a "Parchment" color to more closely look like an aged 70's guitar. It's also got a Callaham steel trem block. It's definitely an excellent instrument.

Not sure if you saw this thread from a couple weeks ago. It has a few pics and some good info.

I didn't know they had a 7 1/4" fretboard radius. I was considering getting one myself, but the radius means I'll definitely have to play one first rather than just grab one online.

The Fender site says the radius is 9.5, maybe the import was different. Thanks for the pics!

That is an affirmative. I think I may have said it was 7-1/4" in the past in an old post. 9.5" Yea, that's it!

I personally have no problem going from a 10-16" compound radius down to 9.5" and 7.25". It must be my Mandolin and Fiddle playing that helps

I like the 9.5 but I like your 10-16 more!

I have one and aside from the pups, headstock and brass nut. The thing you need to reconcile with is the scalloped fretboard. Not for everyone.
I find extermely cool and usable, bending is sooo much easier and you pick up some serious speed.
However, your fret hand touch needs to adjust to lighter touch so you don't go sharp.
Some people find it hard to go back and forth with their regular guitars. To me it is sort of like switching between electrics and my acoustic.

Yea, I have a 10-16" compound radius, 1-3/4" nut width, scalloped Warmoth neck on my white Jake E. Lee tribute guitar. You can really get around on that thing But, it doesn't make much difference to me on the radius. I just make a slight adjustment while playing.

You will love it. It's my favorite Strat. I've had many and still have a few laying around. There are so many models, but this one is cool. You can get the straight Strat sounds out of them as well, with no Hum Everytime I pick it up it makes me want to practice arpeggios!

Sweet, sounds like I'll like it. I too have owned MANY strats over the years, mostly modern american standards and plus'. The only one I have now is my MIM that I modded a bit so I'm gassing for a new USA now. I played a scalloped Charvel years ago that I really liked. It was a very early 80's model from what I remember and the feel was very 'alive'. I played mostly LP's through the late 80's and 90's as well as Jackson's. A YJM is a guitar I've never owned and always had a curiousity about, I'm getting a vintage white/rosewood!
