It's a 97 mahogany Standard. It's in absolutely amazing shape and so far it sounds great. I need to set it up the way I like, then I'll really be able to tell. The JB/59 combo might work in this one. The Standard just might have enough mahogany to tame the tonal aspects of the JB that I normally can't stand.

Brad, there were so many different ones I was looking at. This one came home with me because I got a good deal on it.

Funny how that works isn't it Travis? Most of mine followed me home only because I got good deals on them.

I have always wanted one of those or the freaky looking Rick Nielsen model. Congrates on the new score.

Yeah, it is funny how things happen. I'll tell you the whole story.

The guy who had the 81 V that I was looking at offered to buy my 78 Sunburst. He actually offered a few hundred more than I paid for it. But I just couldn't let that one go. Then I was looking at a 30th Anniversary Studio, and that's why I put a bunch of gear up for sale. When I saw those come out a couple of years ago, I told myself I was going to have one some day. The one I was offered was perfect. But I told my wife that I wouldn't buy it unless I raised all the cash from gear sales. I just couldn't part with two of my work horses. They're just that good. Then, there was a 2000 Sunburst reissue they made with NOS parts from the originals made in the 70's-early 80's. The one that came up had a rare quilt top (maybe 1 of only 2 made with a quilt instead of flame). But, I'm not especially fond of gold hardware. I was also looking at a 96 Artist Custom semi-hollowbody. It was an amazing looking guitar. But the 59 burst is my least favorite finish because it's so common, and I do already have an Artist Korina. Then, I saw this 97 Standard in an ebay ad from a GC 5 minutes from my house. They had it mislabeled as a Korina Standard and priced at a grand. I talked to the guy about it on Thursday. It had been relisted at least once, there was no OHSC, I opened up the cavity and it looked like there had been a bridge pickup replacement, and it was a 2 piece body instead of the more desireable 1 piece. So, I went back the next day with $700 cash, waved it in front of his face and took it home a few minutes later.

Great score. They had it on ebay this week for $899 or $849. I saw it got pulled so I figured somebody walked in and scored it. Congrats! I love my Custom Standard. The quality and tone is amazing on these. You can still get a good deal on a used Hamer. They build great guitars.

Is that a one piece neck? I have never seen one with a one peice neck and that heel before. I figured it was a custom order. Does hamer give out any info on a guitar if you give them the serial #?
