  • YJM has arrived

You guys know these so short review. I was nervous buying a Fender product after my last Jackson purchase (sl2ht) had a twisted neck but I went for it anyway (insane?). The seller on ebay bought it new and didn't like it. It was unplayed, plastic on pickguard/backplate, hang tags, goodies and strap/cable all unwrapped. He paid 1400 and wanted 1000 so I grabbed it. It came as described (TG) and was new as could be with original strings too! G&G hard case is nice too. I read that some had shallow scallopes but not this one! Frets are HUGE and well finished, I was blown away by the size of the trem block, HUGE. All in all it is a great guitar, no flaws and killer features. I don't get the tuner choice or the one way truss rod but its not my signature model! I played her yesterday for about 8 hours, it took me awhile to get used to this thing but I am starting to get it. It is almost like playing a different instrument that I had to learn how to play! I love how it feels but I am still getting used to chording with her. I think it is hanging up on the nut because I am having trouble keeping her in tune, I'll try some nut sauce tommorow. I like it!

Very cool. I've always wanted to try one of those to see if I like the scallops. But I can't ever find one to try before buying.

Welcome to to YJM club! You got that pretty fast and at a good deal too! Yea, try some nut sauce or even a light oil with the brass nut. After oiling you should have no binding at all. I think Yngwie and Fender wanted to keep the 70's F tuners for some strange reason, but they work OK for me. Amazingly they stay in tune very well. Congrats, now I need one with a Rosewood board

Yea, and 10-46's work very well. When I go from a standard fretboard to the scalloped board, I just tell myself to play with a lighter touch. This is especially true for the first 3 frets, then with that you get some speed.

Thanks man, my fingers are killing me! I am working on the light touch down low like you said. The rosewood is very high quality, smooth as glass and very solid tone. I am surprised with the tone, I was expecting it to be tinier. I am playing it at home through my ax2/212 on the soldano patch with my ts9dx, sounds great. I'll try it Thursday through the jcm800 at practice!

That's great. It should be nice through the JCM800. I actually bought one of those YJM distortion boxes and it works well through the front of a JCM. But if you have other effects or an effects loop you can do better than this little box. It does work fine though.

Yea, I here ya on the fingers and it's really hard to tell your mind to play lighter because you have been playing a standard board all this time. The sore fingers is the resultant side effect. It just takes a little time to get the feel, then you back to the standard fretboard and fret out for awhile

I put my board in the pedalboard thread, I use a MT-2 and a GE-7 for a lead boost. I have an old JCM800 2203 without a loop, all the pedals go in front. I think I will have enough with the MT-2 to make up for the low output pups. Yes, the fingers hurt because the wood dosn't stop me! Great control though, I like the YJM club so far! I think I'll have my MIM scalloped next!

YJM uses 8-42, like a set of 9's with an 8.

Yea, I'd really play out of tune with an 8 on there.:ROTF:

I had some tuning instability problems with mine, so i put on a set of Gotoh Locking Vintage oval knob tuners on my MIJ YJM. A very nice retro fit and they really look like the originals. Only the high E has been swapped in these pics:
