    Hey guys,

i read the GMP thread about the clearcoat chipping by the fret ends by the "binding" area. I recently the badassed #869, and it has those very cracks.

are they purely cosmetic? or do they imply impending doom?

i e-mailed the seller of this beautiful axe about it, but frankly i have no idea how to approach this matter!

it matches what you guys described in your GMP forum about the Indoor Storm clear coat problem. i just never paid attention to exactly what numbers had these issues. but its got the fret-end bubbles and cracks in the clear, and a few by the nut/.

Subvamp, Hammer, Crankdaddy, Yet Another One, can any of you gurus help me out?

this is such a badass guitar though, too bad about the clear discreptancies.

    HELP!?

Cosmetic. You won't feel a thing when playing it, and it certainly won't effect the tone.

If you've got a line on one, buy it. You won't regret it. And if for some strange reason you DO...one of us will probably buy it from you. The "indoor storm" doesn't deter us.

Refresh my memory...which one is 869?

The cracks by the nut are normal through approximately the number you're looking at. At some point right around there they stopped installing the nuts before shooting the clear which solved that issue.

The bubbles by the fret ends are the result of a "bad batch of clear" they used to shoot about 400 or so guitars. IIRC that started around #400 and ended somewhere in the 800s but don't quote me on that. That's probably purely cosmetic but I have seen a couple that had chips missing from the clear along the edges of the fretboard ... granted they also had dings and chips elsewhere and neither had the bubbling issue so it might not be related but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

I've seen a few with clear cracks right around the neck pocket ala the (in)famous Gibson neck pocket finish cracks but haven't seen any with checking elsewhere that wasn't obviously the result of damage inflicted by an owner.

Personally I wouldn't sweat that stuff too much but I'd probably ask for a better deal.

            mwahahaha.

pics will have to wait, trussell... i'll upload them.

yeah, welp, i had already bought it, and got it today and found out all the problemos.

i e-mailed the seller about it, i was kind of hoping he'll send me some of my money back, but if not, eh.

im just always paranoid something will happen and the guitar will fall apart somehow, weird.

and yeah, mine has one of those by the neck pocket as well, eh.

beautiful 869 is a flat-top eggshell white Pawnshop with a maple board. kick ass guitar, i love it a lot.

and FINALLY, i can be a part of your guys' club!

                hahaha.

trust me, the meaning "rock as fuck" feels mighty true slinging that thing low and laying out some tunes.

and tom ain't the only one throwing down some punk rock with a GMP!

Glad to hear you're digging the new axe, I'm always curious what people who've not owned a GMP will think about them as they're a bit off the beaten path. And I wouldn't worry about it falling apart, Glenn has been at this a long time and builds a mean guitar. About the only thing I've ever really seen wrong with them are the cosmetic issues WRT the clear that sometimes show up.

                      hey tom,

nah bro, i haven't been in a band for a few months, and i always end up filling in or doing stints in other bands (haven't found the right gig yet).

and every band around here is doing some rehashed Simple Plan, Blink 182-type gig, which is cool, but not my kind of punk, you know?

but i'm hoping to start something new or find something cool. until then i'm jamming along to anything from newer bands like Rancid, No Use For a Name, Alkaline Trio, NOFX, Social D, Bouncing Souls, Face to Face...that sort of thing, if that helps ya out any!

i've also been trying to check out more rockabilly stuff and see if i can work that in me any!

b.t.w- love your crankdaddy stuff a lot, and your kick ass flyers. you guys should add more stuff to your myspace.
