  • Anyone every order a new BC Rich

Hey hey. Ok now I am jonesen for a Warlock custom. I allways wanted one, but never could find the exact one I want, so I was thinking about ordering a new one the way I want. I have heard some not so good stuff about the BC Rich custom shop, but has anyone ordered from them? How is the wait time? Are prices insane? Any thoughts would help-thanks.

I haven't actually ordered from them, but I did buy a Brand new Eagle Deluxe bass made in December 2003 and was displayed at the winter NAMM 2004

What are your concerns about the customshop?

Wait time is approx 8 months, get a quote from either www.mycousinjays.com or from www.guitarasylum.com both guys will undercut the MRP price quite a lot-I was quoted $2400 for a Widow bass with case, and It's MRP is $3309 with case-I hope that helps

Well, I just heard from a dealer that they are diffecult at best to deal with. I don't know what that means thought. I hear the wait times are long too, but after waiting 18 months for my CS Jackson that does not bother me too much. I just do not want to feal like it's not worth it. I spent alot of money on my Jackson, but feel they pretty much nailed it. I do not know alot about new BC Riches, so I thought I would ask here about it.

Based on the last few NAMMs, the quality in the custom handmades has gone up in the past few years.

As with any custom order, be as specific as possible.

I have 3 handmade BCRs. I was bought brand new (Widow) but wasn't ordered by me, the other 2 were bought used but pretty much untouched (Beast and KK Wartribe Warlock).

The necks on all 3 are slightly different and they all sound different, even though 2 have the same pickups. Of course they're all made of different wood too so that will affect the sound.

If you are looking to get the Wartribe inlays, be warned that they will be a bit sloppy. Even Kerry's guitars have sloppy inlays. The diamond inlays are usually perfect.

As for price, my Widow was a NAMm guitar for about 2 years then was purchased by a dealer in Chicago. He put it on ebay for a certain price. I called him and told him my wife and I loved the guitar and was wondering if he'd make a deal over the phone. The list price was close to $5k and I got it for way less than 1/2 that price. I wanted to buy a Wartribe Warlock and another dealer quoted me a price of about $2450 on it.

BCR was bought by HHI a few years ago but the handmades are still being made in Mexico. BCR doesn't always admit this (absolutely nothing wrong with the Mexican luthiers) and they can be a very odd company at times and sometimes very rude to paying customers.

Do your homework, be specific, get multiple quotes and you should be fine.

I ordered a custom Warlock a few years ago. $3000.00 and it took about 8 months.

Cool Venom, just what I needed to hear. as far as the Mexican thing goes....Well from what I hear it's allways been like that, even in the states. They are expensive. I just got my first quote and it is higher than what I paid for my Warrior-and has less options.

Many of the vintage BCRs were made in BC South in Mexico. Not many people know it. From around 1993 on they were still being made in Mexico. BCR until recently would ban people from their forum for talking about this. Again, nothing wrong with Mexican guitars, I just want to present clear information because many people call the customs USA made when they are not.

Yeah. I'll also mention that some guys are complaining about long wait times for the more "custom" instruments. I've seen some really sloppy work (fret markers off, clear coat delaminating, general paint problems) in the last few years. Here's my '04 ('05 delivered) Stealth:

That's the last thing I'll ever be purchasing from BCR...

i also hope the changed who they got there truss rods from, the end of the rico era they were cheapo shit that did nuthing.....ok they did rattle sometimes.
& yes BCR's made blanks in mexico since 79, if you know what to look for you can tell the difference. i dont believe Bich's were made in mexico, or any of the firebirdy headstock'd ones. the mocks are very easy to tell, & im still trying to figure out the eagles. problem is they were ALL hand carved anyway so they varied, even 2 guitars made side by side have slight differences in shape.

I really don't like that Warlock. But in general I don't like that shape anyway and the WHS is just disgusting.

That second one looks nice. It comes from around the same era as my black Stealth (above). It's been sold a few times and the current seller only just bought it on ebay recently so I don't know what that says.

Please do post pics of your Ignitor! What year? Does it have a Floyd?

I did see that auction, but the one I want would have the reverse inline headstock like on the Stealth and with the rosewood overlay and the "R" on the tip.
