What do you guys reckon of Gibson quality in the late '70s/early '80s? I've been offered a trade for my PRS '94 CU22 for a 1980 LP Std. Tempting.

Early 80's Good. Late 70's OK. Early to mid 70's bad IMHO. I have a '80 LPC. It's great. In 1974 I bought my first LPC new. It had a 5 piece maple top! It was OK except it looked weird, had the 60's slim neck and real low frets (hence the name fretless wonder) Some of the late 70's models had maple necks with ebony boards. Some like these. I like the traditional mahogany with the ebony board.

in '78 they released two models that marked the turnaround -
the 25/50 Anniversary and the Heritage. (Heritage kickoff was '80)

They closed down Kalamazoo in '84 and from the late '70s Michigan was only a small-run customshop.
