Tele project finally comlete (almost)

Well, I finally stopped procrastinating and finished up my Tele project. Well, almost . All that's left is to get a template over to Dave at www.fretsonthenet.com to make a cavity cover and I still need to drill for strap buttons. Other than that, it's done.

After changing my mind numerous times, I ended up going with pickup rings. I tossed in a Duncan A5 59/Custom hybrid in the bridge and matched it with a Jazz in the neck. It's got a Warmoth neck with the fatback profile and non- locking Schaller tuners. The bridge is a Carvin FT6. It plays very nicely and the sound is incredibly articulate and snappy. It is very punchy and clear, sounds just the way a Tele/Strat hybrid with two humbuckers should.

One minor thing that always bugs me.
When installing pickups/rings, use a long ruler or some other straight edge and make it run parallel to the neck.
That neck pup looks a bit crooked. Looks like you followed the grain and not the actual neck alignment.

How do you like the difference between the Warmoth and the Mighty Mite you had on there?

Is there some wiggle room to alter the pickup to make it straight? I actually thought it looked crooked in earlier pictures as well before you added the pickup rings. Was wondering if that was the way you mounted them or if the routes were a little tight to keep it straight.

There's not going to be much wiggle room with that neck pickup. I probably could have left the ring unscrewed and it wasn't going to go anywhere. The little bit of tilt doesn't bother me at all. It sounds good and that's all I care about. I wasn't building this to show it off in a gallery. I built it to play the shit out of it. As far as the Warmoth neck, it fits in the pocket much better than the MM. It's a nice tight fit with no wiggle. Plus, it's a fat back profile so it is damn thick and meaty. It feels great in my hand. I think that also adds to the sustain.

Thanks for all the positive comments. I'll tell you guys this, though. It gives me all that much more respect for the guys that can build a guitar from scratch and have it turn out like a piece of artwork as well as something that plays and sounds killer. This isn't pretty, but it plays and sounds the way it should, raw and dirty. Rock as fuck.

Well, I just meant that my skills finishing, drilling, wiring and assembling aren't going to fool anyone into thinking this is a boutique made guitar. I think it looks good, and that's all that matters. I'm still up in the air with the pickups, though. They sound good and are very articulate and snappy in this guitar. But I might be able to use just a little more beef. That's just what my style of playing requires.
