  • Please help ID my Rhoads knock-off!

I won this Rhoads on ebay a couple weeks ago...

I basically bought it for the Dimarzio pickup and the Kahler Flyer trem, but the thing is really well made! Set maple neck with ebony fretboard into alder body with purpleheart wings and fretdots. The MOP inlay in the headstock looks like a legit company logo rather than a one-off knockoff.

I was going to sand it down and completely redo the finish, but if someone can weigh in with a "That's a So and So! - Don't Touch It!", I'll just clean it up.

Nonetheless, a pretty good score for $76!

Too wide a grain for purple heart wood.Looks like a Cort or a Burnside, maybe a Dixon.Thats a rosewood board.Headstock wood is a laminate. It could be made to look pretty cool just don't put a Jackson logo on there because it ain't even close.
      Really? well screw Mark Twain.

I agree on all the above assessments. I hope the Dimarzio and the Flyer are really nice.

I'm not doggin the guitar at all the pickup and bridge are worth what he paid.Just don't put too much money in the guitar.I would put it back up on ebay in the projects section for $150.00

Thanks for the responses guys! The auction URL is http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...e=STRK:MEWN:IT

You raise a good point - the grain should be tighter on purpleheart, and that is a rosewood board (that part is my bad - in a hurry and goin' off memory...which seems to get worse on a daily basis!).

Regardless, gonna sand her down and see what I have. Call me a masochist, I think I'm gonna try to fix her up! Would like to grainfill and clear properly, not to mention fix the tips. Thinking I might just paint the headstock/neck/center body strip gloss black, as it's a pretty abrupt color change from the neck to body right now, and the laminate on the headstock had seen better days.

By all means grain fill then seal with a clear sealer.A graphic would look good as well.Good luck.

Will do - got a couple others I need to finish up first though (a strat, tele, a jazz bass and a star) before I can take on another project, but I'm thinking the next couple months I'll be back with pics!
