      Mahogany, by far.

      Korina being a second.

I chose mahogany because, well, I chose mahogany. Korina might be my second choice.

I like alder, mahogany, swamp ash, and poplar.
I guess I'd have to pick mahogany as the first choice, though.
Never tried Korina, and I'm not really much of a fan of (b)asswood.

I picked maple because you don't have to use grain filler on it, and it doesn't soak up primer quite so bad!

Oh....you said "tone wood".......hmmmmm. I guess I'd have to choose alder for that. I have three axes in alder...DK2M, 88 Jackson CS dinky, and the newly aquired N4. All have passive pups and tone for days. The N4 is actually by far the most resonate acoustically, but it doesn't have paint on it.
To me, mahogany is a little "dull" sounding, and the same seems to hold true for my KOA SDII. The way to fix that is put EMGs in them!

It's more in the pups though.

Mahogany first. I've never had a Korina guitar, but I assume it's pretty close to mahogany because the grain looks similar. Swamp ash is next. Most people probably don't know how great ash sounds, because so very few guitars are made from it. A good piece of ash will sound unbelievably resonant, and nice and midrangy.

"piece of ash"! I love it!

Mahogany for that depth, alder for its more middy sound, poplar because it's pertty similar to alder in tone, then basswood. Never had an ash guitar so I can't say but lots of people seem to love it so I'd like to try it.

One more vote for mahogany... my favourite guitars are mahogany (Soloist Archtop Pro and COW DK6), and I have a JacksonStars Rhoads on order with a mahogany body.

I chose alder. Mahogany being a second.

The results I've experienced with alder are consistent and reliable.
I have seen lightweight and heavyweight ash, can't never tell. Plus it is soft.
                            Basswood is the same deal.
With alder it is almost a sure thing I will get a well balanced rounded tone.

I had a long conversation with a master builder on the Fender CS and he validated my concerns over ash.
Gotta say that for a top over body, it is hard to beat the mahogany/maple combo.
Solid body --> alder for me.
