Make it an 8-string... add octave strings to the high E and low E sides, anchor them through the old stopbar holes.
I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.

Actually I was expecting opinions on holes alignment and what to put on top, rather than on should I do it or not

And I'm very much suprised really, that so many people consider it "ruining" the guitar, though it has no collectable value (and will not have during my lifetime anyway), stopbar can be put back easily in needed and it won't hurt tha playability and tone. I don't know, maybe it's a sacriliege to mod Gibsons

well, it's not like you did something really stupid to it, like cut off the horns, chop a wedge out right behind the bridge and suspend a turnbuckle across it, paint a psychedelic graphic on it or, god forbid, install a Bigsby!

A V shape would have been better than straight across, with the low strings furthest away from the bridge to equalize the string length.

                        Too late now, though.

I did not read all of the posts till after I typed...oh well you did it anyway...you feel compelled to read on...go for it!

It is your guitar so do with it what you wish...that is the bottom line. No lets take a look at the practical side of things...
                          A. Are you a luthier?

                          B. If not how much luthier experience do you have with guitar mods?

                          C. If you totally screw the pooch on the job how pissed will you be?

                          D. There is really no major benefit to a string through, unless you have the hearing of a dog you probably will not notice any difference!

That should just about cover it I think...again it is your guitar so do what you wish with it.

Try this if you want extra "tone and or tension" I have heard of people wrapping the string once around the tailpiece before installing them. Put the string through the holeand pull it through, thenrun the string under the tailpiece and then over then run it string down the neck.

If you decide to go the other way and do the mod look for a similar grain of mahogany then make some plugs for the old holes on the top...Good Luck

I kinda think it is, unless it's a very subtle or invisible mod. but that's just me. I got a Gibson Flying V recently that has one mod, a JB in the bridge in place of the 500T.

anyway, we're just kidding you. no worries.

glad you're happy with what you wanted!

I've seen 3/3 and 4/2 alignments and the explanation was pretty much the same, so I came to conclusion that it is mostly hype.
