I should not drink beer and surf the web. But this Squire struck my fanny. I think it's an older Korean one and they aren't half bad. Oh well, time for another beer.http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1

Thats not a very old squire really. The older ones have two tone logos. The older ones have the standard thicker body. The newer ones have a thinner body. The pickguards on the newer ones are quite a bit different. The older ones were the same as the USA and Jap except for the location of the pickguard screw holes. The older Korean metal bottom pickups sound quite good really, not as good as the older Jap pickups tho'.Really? well screw Mark Twain.

Don't let the tuners fool you. I have had my share of Strats. Those F type knockoff tuners were on the older ones. If that bastard scraped off the "Afinity", I will be pissed.:ROTF: :ROTF: :ROTF:I am a true ass set to this board.

As for the one you just got, Fett, it looks Chinese or Indonesian to me, but I'm not a Squier expert. At that price you should at least have no problem getting your money back. I wouldn't think you'd find it a keeper unless you want one with the big headstock though.Ron is the MAN!!!!

Yeah, the big headstock struck my eye. The grain in the wood did also. Then I noticed the 8 screw pickguard. I have seen so many necks where the grain just doesn't look like "old" wood. I mean in the heart. I can spend $100 because I don't make a $300 a month car payment.:ROTF: :ROTF: At least, the strings look like almost dead on on the poles.:ROTF: :ROTF:Last edited by fett; 09-03-2006, 04:47 PM.I am a true ass set to this board.

Yeah, something doesn't look right about that headstock. A former co-worker of mine bought his kid a Squier starter pack and that guitar was fairly horrid.
On the other hand, I bought a brand new Squier II in 1991...H/S/S pickups, maple fretboard, black finish with no pickguard. I sold it to my brother, and when he moved out on his own, he left the guitar and his old broken Crate combo at our parents' house. I was house-sitting for them this weekend, and fired the ol' Squier up. His old amp is garbage, but that $200 guitar plays great, stays in tune, and doesn't even have any fret buzz. After 15 years, that Korean Strat is still better than a lot of the "newb" guitars I see at GC.
