Thoughts on Suhr Guitars?

Matt, would taking on the Suhr line give you access to his amps? Some of his mods are the some of the best in the business...Ask Doug Aldrich or Clapton...Heard he'll work on just about anything...only cost could be time and money....
Had an Anderson, loved it. Would buy another tomorrow if I could. WOuld buy a Suhr even if I couldn't afford one...

I have 1 Suhr and 2 Tom Andersons. Suhr necks, fretboards, and fretwork are IMMACULATE! Best in the business. To me tonally, they are hit or miss though... 98% chance of getting a great looking one but, 60% chance of getting a great sounding one. Tom Andersons are less hit or miss... say like 80% chance of getting a great sounding one and 85% chance of getting a great looking one. TAG's Switcheroo system is AWESOME! Both run with stainless steel frets (which is the only way to fly if offered as an option or standard by a manufacturer these days). Both have good sounding proprietary pup's but, I give TAG pup's the edge over Suhr pup's. I have not played any of the Suhr pro series guitars. Just Suhr Standards & Limiteds. I played multiples of probably ever TAG model though. They are both great lines but, have touchy and finicky buyers. Good luck with whichever line you decide to go with.Last edited by Robotechnology; 09-13-2006, 07:14 AM.

I don't have much experience with Suhrs, but I've owned a few Andersons, so I'll comment on that builder. Their customer service is just excellent. And I've never played one that didn't sound fantastic. Plus, I admire them for trying out some new designs such as their neck joint, M pickups, and the Atom model.

as much as I hate to say they are far superior to any instrument from our beloved Charvel/Jackson custom shop...sorry to be blunt but every single Suhr guitar I have played was perfect....
Having said that yes you shuld carry the line....I also don't buy any guitars w/o a Floyd but people seem to be liking VT's of late so perhaps carry them all
I've only played a few Andersons and they too are top notch, smoking instruments. A friend of mine has a sunburst strat, fat maple neck h-s-s with piezos in the vintagetrem bridge saddles....Last edited by Shawn Lutz; 09-13-2006, 11:12 AM.shawnlutz.com

Suhrs are graet playing guitars, Andersons I've never tried. I tend to stay away from those super expesive small manufactures because I've realized that if I like 'em I'm gonna keep buying.I swear, by my life and my love of it, that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine. - Ayn Rand

The Pro Series is made to certain specs and no custom options are available. I agree....they are great guitars that will spoil you when you play one.

Looks like I'm going to be a little different here. This may come off sounding negative, I don't mean it that way, but comes as my view of the market perspective only. I can't comment on Suhr or Anderson as I have never played either one and probably won't. Personally, if I want a "Fender" type high end guitar and want to go traditional, it's going to be a Custom Shop Fender NOS or Closet Classic. If I want a "Hot Rod", Super Strat or Super Tele for that matter, style guitar, I'm going with a Charvel or Jackson, either as a production guitar or from the Custom Shop.
I'm sure the quality of workmanship is there with both manufacturer's as already stated, but I see their guitars as a "niche" market. More so than Charvel or Jackson.Tone is like Art: Your opinion is valid. Listen, learn, have fun, draw your own conclusions.

I have played Andersons and Suhrs at American Guitar Boutique and Willies Guitars here in MN (along with Melancon, Tyler, Zion, Warrior, Baker, Langcaster, etc...)
The bolt on CS Jackson has better tone than the Andersons I have played hands down. The neck is the best I have ever played. And I do really like the necks on both the Suhrs and the Andersons - they are great.
But the Jackson guys have been doing this for 20 years also and they use just as good of materials and workmanship. Read Matts thread sometime about it on this forum.
I can tell you from personal experience you have a sweeping statement up there. They are great traditional vintage style guitars. But if you want a Ferrari shred machine I will take Jackson - at least a CS one.
If Suhr comes out with a 24 fretter I will probably buy one. But I think a neck only gets so good. Suhr and Anderson have it down. But my pesonal experience with my own CS Jackson is every bit as good - the shape is just perfect.Last edited by shredmonster; 09-13-2006, 04:27 PM.PLAY TILL U DIE !!!
