    Ibanez s540?

    I was out of the city this weekend, and a friend asked me to trade his dk-2 hrf with this Ibanez (I guess it's an s540) with a guy in the city I'm visiting. I loved the guitar when I first saw it because it looks similar to the one Alex Skolnick is using and it's already signed by him. (Skolnick is in my top 3! great player/composer) I couldn't look into the details of the guitar at first because I was a bit drunk but it seemed ok. So I did the trade, brought the Ibanez home, cleaned her nicely and restringed...

    And I can say it dissappointed me. The neck is fully scalloped but it just doesn't play well, the lo-trs trem is a piece of crap and doesn't stay in tune well... Also the pups suck bad, very low output. I was planning to play this one on a gig thursday evening but I guess I won't I'd prefer the dk-2, it also had a duncan distortion on it.

    Anyway here are two crappy pictures,





    The serial number on this one is F308898 Does it mean this is a 93?

      I didn't buy that, it was not my decision to make the trade. The dude had already given his decision But if I weren't drunk and if I could check the guitar in detail I would have called him and suggest thinking about the trade again...

            Nice guitar. It is a 93. The neck pickup looks like a hot rail. I have never had any problems with the TRS trem although it isn't as good as the Low Pro. Maybe something is wrong with the wiring because even stock Japanese made Ibanez pickups are high output.
            That guitar should play and sound excellent. The scallop job looks really nice too.

              That was what I thought also , but it sounds nothing near excellent, and doesn't play as good as it should be... Maybe I should get used to it

                      Is the bridge pickup one of those double-rail jobs as fitted to 'Yo Kramers?
                      I've not heard many good things about them, that may be the source of your sound problems....

                          I was thinking the same thing, that pickup looks just like a Quad-Rail, which is crap. I have a Dimarzio Distortion in my RG and it's miles ahead of that QR.

                          And it could also be wired wrong. Take it out and have a look, can hurt.

                            Yeah they are, and I've realised that the screws of the pick-up ring that adjust the pick-up height are missing. and the pick-up is long way away from strings! (yeah I'm a noob )

                            Levent, the nut and the string retainer is in fact black but they are worn out. I don't know about the volume/pot knobs though. They are aftermarket and suck completely

                            Keeping track of my guitars? I just play my buddies' guitars. That makes it! I have the kelly, dr-x, dxmg, esp (the weird shaped one) and a dk2le on its way,
