I started playing acoustic (got a Laredo classical and an Eagle dreadnought).
My first electric was an Epiphone G-310 SG, which sucked.
So I sold it after a few months and got my first Jackson, a DKMGT.
    Never looked back...

Ok I admit I look to the side (I try out everything I get my hands on...) but so far nothing has hooked me enough to make me buy it.

ibanez was it for me!!! i had 7 or 8 of them.....and thought they were GREAT!!!

then i went to hamer in the early mid 90's when it wasn't cool to play pointy guitars.....

then it was japanese ESP MII or mirage custom guitars.....

then in the early days of the new millenium, i switched to USA jacksons.....first with a PC-1 then a ton of soloists.

lately i just play whatever works for the style i am doing. that could be a PRS, a fender strat or tele, a gibson LP, J/C, ibanez......

i prefer jacksons, but now i grab whatever works.
      GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

      and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

besides some cheap guitas not worth to mention my first "real" guitar was Gibson M-III. Had to sell it to buy my SL2H EDS. Still miss it a bit as a great workhorse.

          Great thread!

I had a few real cheapos: A strat copy was my first, then a Cort Effector (white plywood Explorer with all the onboard effects! ) which I painted a blood drip on to, then a red Korean Guild Burnside Lance (Rhoads copy)

Started on a no name acoustic that lasted me for 1 year. From then I worked in a fast food place when I was 14 or 15 for a couple of months then bought a Kramer Striker. Played that thing for 3 years until I bought my first high dollar guitar which was a Kramer Pacer Custom. Then I ran into Charvel then hit Jackson with a ESP and a Strat along the way.

First and second guitars were a Fernandes LP replica and a Gibson '67 Flying V, both of which I still have. Then a 750XL came into my life.

My first guitar was a white plywood Cort with two single coils that I wrapped electrical tape around to get the EVH mojo . I moved from there to a Kramer Focus 1000 that I had until 1990 or so (I wish I still had that one), then moved on to an Ibanez RG560. I didn't get my first Jackson until 1999, a DR3.

I don't have any Jacksons at the moment, but I do have two sweet Charvel San Dimas reissues.

First guitar ever was a cheap Korean guitar (a "Falcon" methinks), looked somewhat like a Tele.. Then I bought a Peavey Tracer, the guitar was made in USA but it had a licenced Floyd Rose, I think that's kind of weird:/
Had to give the Peavey back shortly after because I wasn't capable of paying down my downpayment, guess I wasn't as rich as I thought after all
Then I got hold of a black Dean ML (Korean). Cool guitar but I sold it because I needed the money (of course).
Fingers were itching and I needed something to play on, so I won an auction on a BC Rich Kerry King V (you know the cheap Chinese one with the tribal pattern ). Then I got hold of a white MIJ Fender Strat. I regret selling that one to this very date, but the rent wouldn't pay itself and neither would my fiancee I believe my next guitar was my BC Rich Eagle. Shortly thereafter I bought my first Charvel (MIJ). Then I traded them both in for a custom guitar I have now. Maybe I'll sell my current guitar and get a really good Charvel sometime, time will tell.
Anyway, that's my story so far. By the way I'm 20 and I got my first guitar when I was 15.. So many guitars in so little time..

My folks wanted me to play Bach, so I started on an off brand nylon string in 1976. It had pretty high action for a kid, so my folks traded it for a great sounding Guild classical the following year. Thankfully I didn't do anything stupid, and I still have that one.

Fast forward to 1985 when my freshman roomate and I traded lessons. Eddie worship led to an '85 Kramer Baretta (I just recently discovered that it has a custom shop serial number). That guitar was and still is shit hot. It needs a refret due to years of abuse. It was my only electric from '85-'90, although I spent much time drooling over Hamers and Jacksons. I still have the Jackson catalog with the custom shop templates, heavily fondled.

In 1990, after all that window shopping, I added an '89 Tom Anderson with the same wood combo and layout as Reb Beach's Pensa-Suhr. No regrets. Then in '93 I added a Washburn steel string. At that point, I really should have been set for life given my meager skills.

In 1998, I started buying USA Hamers like crazy. I coudn't get over how cheap they were. Before I regained my sanity, I found myself with mess of Hamers, a Robin, a couple of Jacksons, a Charvel, an ESP bass, and a McNaught! The Hamer Californians get the most play time, but I can't bring myself to sell any of the others. I know--I need help.

I had alot of BC Rich warloks, Yamaha RGX series , & Ibanez when they started makeing the odd shape guitars.
Oddly enough I've gone back to Ibanez more lately, Just got an RG2550 Prestige in Galaxy Black. I still have 1 Warrior Pro left & an Agile 7 string Interceptor.
