  • Custom order heading into snafu status.

I need some advice on how to handle this situation.

I've got a custom shop guitar on order and it's about 60% done and will be behind schedule due to a part(that's ok). Well, today I got a message from the manufacturer asking me to see if I can get my deposite back and they'll set me up with another dealer to complete the deal. My dealer is on the s**t list. Oh! ...Of course, It's "you didn't here this from me."

Needless to say I'm pissed. On one side, I appreciate the pro-customer service of the manufacturer but on the other, this is unprofessional. They should just straighten it out and move my order elsewhere. Why should I have to do this? It's well within the build time and I have no grounds to get the deposit back from the dealer 10 months in.

    Any advice. Thanks - John

Your relationship is with the dealer and not the manufacturer. It sucks but it is true. I had the same problem with Kevin Easton with a customer shop order. Luckily I got my money back and was able to get it moved to a new dealer. Everything worked out in the end.

Man, sorry to hear that dude! I still don't understand why the manufacturer doesn't just sort it out for you. Thoroughly unprofessional on their part. But why am I not surprised?!

I hope everything turns out alright for you. I would get the deposit back and work direct. At least you know you would not get screwed and would have a contact to check in with at the CS

Most dealers would not refund deposits on Custom orders. Now, if he finds out from you that he is on the manufacturers shit list you may have opened pandora's box. Either case this is bad.
Try to approach the dealer and see where the order is at, etc. he may let you in on what is going on and work out a refund, instead of asking him flat out for refund.

This happened with me once, actually. I had a custom shop order in with one dealer. It was several months into the build and, lo and behold, the custom shop pulled their dealership.

Luckily, the original dealer was very cool in handling it with me. They refunded my deposit promptly, and gave me suggestions on how to go about taking the same order to another dealer and keeping it in the build queue. After some discussion, the new dealer took the deposit and order from there. And since the manufacturer could easily recognize the order number (i.e., just moving it from one dealer to another), it was smooth on their end, too.

It sucks to deal with, but it can happen. And, yes, your relationship is with the dealer. Not the manufacturer. So any "changes" should start with the dealer. If the manufacturer isn't being straight up with the dealer, you should probably avoid getting in the middle with changing your order. Things should play out at the manufacturer/dealer level first. Just MHO.

If I ever got a custom shop jackson I'd go through either matt's, DCGL, or guitar asylum.

I decided to go with a simple e-mail to the dealer asking about my order. I don't think I should be the one to fill the dealer in on his s**t list status and again, I don't have a good enough reason to ask for my deposit back without getting involved.

Sorry for the fill in the blanks post but I wanted to get some advice. The guitar co. is BCR, not hard to figure out if you've read some of my recent posts, and as for the dealer I rather not say at this point. I will say it's a well known custom shop dealer.
