Just talked to GC and hit them with Shreddermon's sage advice.

An lo and behold...the clouds started to part....

They said for me to fax them a repair price quote from Gibson, and I could keep the guitar and get a refund for the full price of the repair. THEY will deal with UPS from here on out.

I am glad this is working out.

For the uninitiated, I will give a brief explaination of how the claim process works with UPS since I had to do it once.

I bought a guitar from a JCF'er in California. When it got to me the headstock was cracked.

I had to initiate the claim by calling UPS to send an inspector to my house to check out how it was packaged and to take pictures of the package and damage. I repacked it for war before he got to my house. It wasn't really packed well when I got it.

In the meantime, the JCF'er in California started the claim on his end. Since he is the one that purchased the insurance, he is the one that gets paid. He has to make a claim.

In the end, he got paid for the full amount of insurance and I believe he got to keep the guitar too.

He sent me a replacement as well.

Please note that you are taking a risk by going the repair route. Your credit card company's obligations relate to the original purchase only. A "side agreement" for a refund in the amount of the repair price, won't be covered nor advocated by them one iota. If GC doesn't follow through, you'll be screwed. And the more time between when the purchase was made, and when you initiate a charge dispute, the less chances you have of getting all of your money back.

My continued "sage advice" () would be to take a full refund now. There's always more fish in the sea. Find yourself another Frampton somewhere else and buy that, instead. Don't deal with the repair. Maybe it works out, maybe it doesn't. But, IMHO, it's not a risk worth taking. It's just asking for possible trouble.

rsguitarworks.net they are the shit when it comes to fixing headstock breaks.These guys make Gibsons work look 2nd rate.They took a 50s LP jr that had been cut with a sawsall and had a splintered neck back from the dead and you could not tell it had been repaired.
Anyone that has Gibson with a break needs to contact these guys they do outstanding work.

If you do go the repair route, I would insist on a complete neck replacement from Gibson. Basically, they will have to completely rebuild the guitar, and it will take some time to complete, but you will retain the low serial number. And yes, Best Wishes as well!

Not necessarily always true..I have one that would refute that,..but..objectively.. on the majority of luthier repairs it likely would not. It really depends upon the break and the materials used to repair as well as the skill involved in fixing the break it as to whether it would break in the same seam again. If its doweled.. that chance is reduced to almost nil.
If its just glued, it could still happen.

I would just get it fixed. I have a beat to shit Les Paul with a snapped and glued headstock and it functions perfect. If it breaks at the headstock again, it won't be where it has been glued

i had something happen like that not with a guitar, call your credit card company, tell them to stop payment & dispute the purchase. some CC companies will do this for you & will either get u a refund or replacement.

I'd call the CC Co and return it to GC. If you want a FLP with a broken headstock, you'll know where to get 1 cheap in a month or so.

......oh fffffffuck. i'm so sorry, man. those framptons are pretty as all hell. if it's a clean break, you may be better off fixing it. but what a way to start with such a nice guitar.

Man, that blows. I'd go with the sage and sager advice of just getting the full refund at this point. All the responsibility is on the sender, and not insuring it for the full amount is just utter idiocy!, but not your fault. There's other LPs out there, and like someone mentioned, you might be able to pick this one up for like 1/2 the price in the not too distant future!
