  • Frampton Les Paul: Destroyed!

    Hey folks,

You may recall my earlier thread of looking for a Frampton Signature Les Paul. Crankdaddy hooked me up with one in his town, and I bought it and had it shipped, nice and smooth.

But then the evil that is UPS decended upon it...

Unpacked it, opened the case, BEAUTIFUL....truly stunning.
But I wondered why the strings were slack...
"Must have loosened the strings for shipping...yeah...that's it..."
Turned it over...Standard Gibson Headstock Break!

Now I'm doing the dance with UPS trying to get a claims guy out here. I've been through this before with them, and they're going to use their classic line: "Sorry, this was improperly packed".

I'm *hoping* that once UPS denies the claim, that the GC I bought it from will step up to the plate and refund my money. The REALLY fukked up thing about it all is that this guitar was one of the original 500 run, and now that number is down to 499...

I'm guessing GC is going to want to guitar back, but I'm a little worried about sending it back with only a "promise" of having my money refunded.

Anyway, if any of you folks out there should happen across another one, (other than Ebay) let a Bro know please. I'm still paying that 6 Pack of Your Choice Finders Fee!

Oh man....I am sorry to hear this. They are such nice guitars. The way shippers throw things around, I am not surprised at all.

You'll have to be okay on this. In no way was it your fault. Hopefully you put it on a credit card. I'd do the dispute paperwork right now, that way it's not on your statement.

              Unbefuckinglivable!!!

Dude, I am going through a UPS claim soap opera myself. What in the hell are they doing!!! I got a Fender Masterbuilt Strat the other day and as soon as I saw the box, I knew it, trouble. I told the driver and he just made that stupid grin face and shrug the shoulder thing like "I'm sorry". I just wanted to slap the teeth off his face.

              I feel your pain.

I've seen the way some of the gorillas at UPS throw things around. When i see my driver throwing stuff out of the truck i yell at him. He's gettin better but still. He's seen me mad so he kknows better than to piss me off. lol
there is such a thing as over packing a guitar. The strings should be slack to let the headstock vibrate if it needs to. Nothing under the headstock either for the same reason. Look at how the over sees shippers ship things. In minimal packing with jus carboard support around the head stock and a groove for the neck to rest in. With styraphome or more cardboard strategiclly placed for cusion. If the guitar is over packed it cant move like it needs to expell the enrgy of a small impact. Think of itlike a fire cracker in your closed fist. When it goes off it takes lots of skin and some fingers with it do to energy having to expand but it cant so it takes out things in its way. Where as just layin a firecracker in you open palm you'll get a burn or two but you;ll still have all your fingers. A guitar neck is the same way with energy if it cant expell the energy created by an impact or a movement it will snap the neck. If the GC guys over packed it that could be why. I work in a GC warehouse and ship many guitars a week to other stores and direct to customers and havnt lost one yet. the key is to not over pack it. If its a fom fitted case thats plenty of support for the guitar. Just loosen the strings and put the case into a box and fill the box with packing materials (ie peanuts, paper, bubble wrap etc,) Or just have UPs pack it for you if it gets F'd up its there fault all the way around.
Sorry to hear of the damage. It sucks especaily on something limited like that. I hope you get it worked out.
