If they did that exact guitar but:
Plain finish,
Maple finger board (no inlays)
1 vol 1 tone with one 3 way switch
Now, that could be a new classic!Last edited by tanpsi; 11-03-2006, 07:25 PM.

Okay. So I've been doing some poking around on this model, and I found a German website with an actual price for pre-orders on these!
The EU/$ ratio isn't going to say much, however, they had it listed at approx. 80% of the cost of a Les Paul Studio. So if that holds true in the USA market, that means these things should be available for $800-850, which is a killer deal IMHO.
Now for the bad and the ugly!
Gibson paid this terrible band to make a THEME SONG for this guitar:
Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.
Honestly, after seeing that video, I'm not sure I want to have ANYTHING associated with a band like that, lol.
I'm almost tempted to write Gibson and ask them if they are really that out-of-touch with their consumers that they think this will drive sales!

Music123 now has this model on their site for $969
And a "LTD" version for $3600?
One of only a few exclusive models in this first limited edition, the BFG Ltd. comes with a handwritten serial number and certificate to indicate its special run.

ehh... let the naysayers come.. I haven't played one so I can't justly judge it by its most important aspect .. how it plays and sounds..which it may win me hands down but it looks like a modded old beat to shit les paul in a alligator case w/o the case..
kinda snakeskinish.
Most Gibsons I've seen from the 50's, their lacquer is all cracked anyways.. this just puts it ahead of the game by a couple decades. Its an ugly swan, but it is its own self.. its not pretentious like alot of the 'aged' and 'preconditioned' Gibsons.
I vote I like it... and for 600.00..if it plays well.. I'd buy it, lightly used even.

Shop Les Paul electric guitars at Gibson. From the classic Les Paul Standard to the Les Paul Modern Studio, find the perfect guitar for you. Shop now!
ok.. after looking at it.. it has aged and distressed hardware..and a shopworn LP case. Maybe it is a bit of a poser after all.
I'll look for it on clearance.
That's a clever rewrite there Mickey-C.Last edited by charvelguy; 11-07-2006, 08:46 PM.

wow.. I didn't watch that before. I take it all back about supporting this guitar.. those guys suck. They're beyond posers and I played in the glam days. Whatever happened to the old guy in a tutu doing the splits.. those ads were great!.. I want that ad back.. hell.. Gibson, I'll wear a freakin tutu and jump off a drum riser doing the splits for a vid spot and a Les Paul. Damn corporate marketing.

Well, my BFG showed up today. Here are some quick thoughts on it. First, The case is actually not bad. Its a good formfit job and looks pretty sturdy. Second, the guitar is basically unfinished. I ordered a gold and its sort of gold I guess. There is overspray on the neck from the body and its like they stopped sandeing the guitar with 400 grit. The distressed black hardware looks like it was new 10 years ago or so. Back control cover plates are clear. The kill switch isn't a great fit. They need a washer to make it work. No cover on either pup, and the same for the truss rod. Those are the bad. The positive is that the neck looks absolutely bitchin without fret markers. It is a great grade of rosewood for the fret board. The back and necks satin finish is so smooth, more on that in a bit. Overall, the look is both good and bad. Barely Finished Guitar indeed.
Ok, then I picked it up. Wow! this thing is light. 7-8 pound range light. Like I said, that unfinished neck is a joy to play. Frets felt a bit sharp on the end, they could use a quick file job. Fretboard feels fast and the frets are level and smooth at least. Great job on the nut Gibson!! Stayed in tune, no fret buzz. In fact the action felt great right away. Very broken in feeling. Minuses are minimal here. Basically, the top edge of the body is a bit sharp, but I really didn't notice it too much playing.
Sounds? THAT P90 ROCKS!!! I have heard people complain about it being there in the first place, but it was the main selling point for me for this axe. I can't explain just how nice it sounds in this axe. The tone pot on this axe had a full sweep, so it was super usefu. I love that pup!! Makes me want a douple P90 LP jr now. Switching to the bridge pup was like hitting the nitro button. Combined with the smooth feel of the neck, this is a great players axe.
That's really the upshot, it's a players axe. Tons of tonal variation with the pickups make it really versatile, the smoothness of the neck combined with its light weight mean it would be easy to do a 3 hour gig with. Drop it on accident and guess what? Who cares? A ding will only add character to this fugly beast. I will be making some changes to it. I am going to file finish the fret ends, clean off the overspray, add a truss rod cover and call it "done."
I think it's definitely a worthwile guitar. Of course I liked it to begin with. Pictures when I get my camera back from the guy I loaned it to. But really, it aint fun to look at and may actually break the camera if I try to photograph it.

There's things I like about it and things I don't. First thing is the slightly larger headstock...appears they used the LP Deluxe Headstock template on this one. Put a damn cover over that gaping hole on the headstock for Chrissakes!
Also...wooden knobs?...cheeze factor 10!
Finally...the P90?...that's an aquired taste, not aquired by me though....bllechhh!...can you say SCREEEEEEEEEEECCCHHH!!!???
After all that, it's pretty cool looking!

The P90 on this guitar doesn't screech. At least I haven't had a problem with it. No overt hum either. It aint a quiet pup, but at the same time, its no Fender single coil.
The headstock isn't that big. No larger then say my 61 SG. The wooden knobs look alot better in person. That said, I am putting some witch hats on it. BTW, I already put a TRC on that fugly yellow hole. It made a big difference right away.
Definitely not a guitar for everyone. I don't much care for the looks myself, just the playability and tone. Of course, for me, those were the most important factors.
