  • YJM Strat on the way!

Just won this yesterday afternoon:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...2361&rd=1&rd=1 and he said it will ship today, so I should have it next week, just in time for the 4-day weekend

Here's the story (kinda long so feel free to skip and just comment of the guitar) . I've been learning/playing a bunch of SRV and blues stuff the last 6 months and have been GASing for a Strat. Two weeks ago I won an SRV strat that I didn't expect to, which was fine because it was a model I was considering. It came in last Thursday and it was a nice guitar but I thought the neck was too fat for my hands. I have also thought about a YJM (I had a blue one 3 years ago for a couple months) but stores just don't carry them and with the scalloping I wanted to play one first.

Lucky for me the new Sam Ash here has a used one. So Friday I took a long lunch and went to play their SRV and the YJM back-to-back. Played the SRV first for about 10 minutes, which was enough since I had played mine the night before. Then I found the used YJM they have (blue w/rosewood board) and ended up playing it for about 45 minutes! It took a couple minutes to adjust to the scalloped board but I was digging it. It felt fantastic for bends and vibrato, which is what I was looking for. But I don't want a one-trick pony, so I made sure to play some open chord and SRV stuff (like Love Struck Baby) to make sure it still felt good. And it did. Unfortunately, they are asking $1200 for the YJM which is way off-base considering you can get a new one for $1399. So I didn't even bother haggling.

I played the SRV a bunch more over the weekend and confirmed the neck doesn't work for me. I sold it on the bay Wed. and yesterday was really thinking of different options when I happened to check my "Yngwie" saved search after lunch and found it. I had to do a double-take, a USA Yngwie strat (white w/maple no less) with a $700 BIN! And not trashed -lol. That's a good price even for a Jap one. I hit the refresh a couple times while deciding and no one had bought it, so I did! Now I just have to wait.......

Congrats! That´s a steal. I´ve tried some of those and they´re very well-built pieces... but I can´t get around the scallops myself.

aren't they doing something to redesign/update the YJM's?

old ones could become a premium axe

I've always dug those YJM's, I wouldn't mind getting one myself. Scalloped boards are great once you get the hang of them (which won't take long).

Great score! And ditto, even down to the approximate year (except for the price - they're generally pricier over here). I won one on e-bay yesterday - looking forward to trying it out soon - will post piccies as well, once it's here.

Guitarnut - congrats, it's a small world! They're pricier than this one over here too, they usually sell for $850-$1000. That's why I had to grab it immediately.

Congrats! That's a Steal! I love mine. I got rid of the mint green pup covers and pickguard and installed aged white to more accurately depict a 70's Strat. They are great guitars!
