  • Gibson SG Menace

I'm totally enamored with these things. Anyone have any info on them? Pickups any good? Neck shape? How many were built? What do they go for used?

I'm almost positive that it will be my next purchase.
    Sleep!!, That's where I'm a viking!!

It doesn't say 60's slim taper.. neck looks rather wide. I like it.

I played one at a local Daddy's Junky Music, I prefer the 60's slim taper, so to me, the neck was kind of fat, but not enough to seriously consider one. I didn't bother plugging it in though, I just wanted to see how it felt.

Yeah... Not really my thing. I bet you will be able to find one dirt cheap on ebay in a few years after they discontinue them. Gibsons that are not the traditional design seem to appreciate less than others i.e. Les Paul Custom, Standard, Explorer '76, '58 V, Firebirds. The Gothics come to mind when I see this one.

+1 on it reminding me of a gothic.

My first thought was it was a cross between the voodoo and gothic series. Looks like it's trying to appeal to the new school hardcore crowd with the headstock and knuckleduster inlay.

What the hell do they mean by "Tribal body routings"?

Nevermind, I see it now. Hmmmm....well, it's definitely different!

I kinda' like the new SG GT better, of course it's about twice the price as the Menace.

If you have played a melody maker or LP junior made in the 60's compared to a 60's production era slim taper SG, the contrasting difference is night and day.
Some 60's necks were exceptionally chunky/baseball bat like.

Tough looking SG, also prefer slim necks, but good to mix it up once in awhile. Flat black, ebony fretboard, mapletop, brass hums, cool!!! Played
one it sounded brighter like a Les Paul std., unlike by other mohog SG's.

                              I don't like it.

I wish they would bring back the SG Jr with a 500T in it.
the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives
