  • Yamaha Aes Series

New to the board and thought I would share my experience with the AES 720.

The AES series (720,920) are incredible guitars. Especially the 720...talk about value. It is a neck through, string through, dimarzios, locking grovers, excellent tone that will give my LP a run for its money. I bought the 720 because it is not as pricey as the 920 and because I saw Ty Tabor playing these and they sound incredible.

    Gear:
    1993 Gibson Les Paul
    1994 Jackson Rhoads
    1996 Fender Strat
    2005 Yamaha AES-720
    1992 Charvel Bass

    Marshall 2x12 Combo
    Hartke 140w 15" Bass combo

haha...yes. Makes the guitar "seem" thin however it is just as thick as an LP.

I have looked at them in stores. The necks seem quite chunky to me, and I'm not keen on the shape, especially the big round horn. No doubt they are well made guitars, but I really wish Yamaha would re-issue the Weddingtons. I have a Weddington Classic, and it is unbelievable. The neck joint is the most comfortable ever, and the neck is very thin and fast. Here's a couple of pics of mine.

I'll say it again, Yamaha's are sweet. One of the few brands I can honestly say I've never played one by them I didn't like. Actually was gonna buy a RGX A2 or a used RGX520FZ w/ a DiMarzio Evo on it but just decided to pay off what was left on my DK2T . Glad to see you're liking it.

I've always liked those guitars too, I'm a fan of big necks.
