  • My Newest Paul

So i figured i would finaly post some pic's of this guitar. Black Les Paul Custom Lite with Floyd. It has been played hard, when i got it i had to get new locking nuts and do a major set up, some minor repair on one of the Trem posts, the hole was slighty to big so i had to fill it in a bit.

It is so playible, I can see why it is in the shape it is in, this guitar just has a mojo about it. Noodles who is not a big les fan couldnt keep his hands off it, same here. My only grip is the pickups are not hot enough for me and the routing is to shallow for any other pickup brand besides EMG's.

But if i put in EMG's then i can only put in one battery by taking out the coil tap switch and putting it between the volume and tone knob.

I dont want to mess with the route under the pickups as the floyd route is right under them, so there is not much wood between them. i have thought about maybe taking a pickup and cutting and soddering the tabs back on so they are smaller, any of you guys had luck trying this ever?

Anyway here are the pic's, anyone know what kind of pickups these are? The bridge reads about 9K on an ohm meter.

Yes I did, someone on here actualy pointed it out in the afraid of ebay thread. I ended up getting it for about $1309 shipped i think was the total or somewhere close to that.

My other two les paul custom lites were still the best bargins, my hard tail one which i still own i picked up for $1034 shipped and i had another lite with a floyd that was the pink color, not as good tone wise but seemed to have slightly different pickups, I paid $1025 shipped for that one. I ended up selling that for about $1400 over a year ago. If i would have waited a year i probaly could have gotten more, one just sold on ebay for $2000+

Nice LP. I am pretty sure that I have seen Duncan or Dimarzio pickups with really short tabs before. Call Duncan and see what they can do for you.

was it with the floyd or without? The one without the floyd i believe has regular pickups in it and can be swapped, but due to the floyd route they made the pickup routes not as deep.

Yup, he was selling it because he wanted a hard tail les paul black beauty or standard or soemthing like that.

Yeah for the price you just cant go wrong, if it wasnt so played it would have went for more money. But i prefer my les pauls played, that means they have a good tone and people liked it enough to play the hell out of most of the time.

Agreed that "pretty LP's" are probably closet queens that might not sound good. A well played LP has good tone (either that or the owner was tone-deaf)

I have a pair of Gibson pickups from 1983 that have short tabs. They have features of Shaw's but are hotter than Shaw's (so they are not). Point is, short tab pickups are out there. If a short tab pickup doesn't turn you one, you might be able to take the base plate and put on the parts of a pickup you like (Custom, DD, JB, Super D, etc). You might also be able to special order from SD.

Nice axe, but I'd really like to a/b against one of my LP's before I'd plop the cash for one. Do you still have any regular LP's, or do you remember how they compare to a normal LP?

I have a regular les paul custom lite and a 1968 reissue. The big difference is the lites do not have the maple top so they are warmer with not as much bite. It is why the 500T's sound good in them, because it brings out some brightness.

Mine came with the bridge pickup swapped out already. I think its a duncan? So other pickups will fit in there. I'm on a business trip so I can't look at the guitar to see if they did anything special to get that in there.
