  • Custom Star parts mutt, with pics!

Here's a Star that I've been working on for a while...

Still in pieces, but I thought I'd throw it out there for suggestions and whatnot...

    The specifics are:
Star body from Blackhorse Guitars (thanks Sully for loaning yours as a template!) done in Mary Kay white nitro lacquer
Walnut neck from Bill Zolla at Zolla Guitars here in San Diego.
Brass trem used off fleabay (Schecter)
    EMG 81 pickup (my fave)
Other assorted gold hardware lying around the shop

I still need to get a brass neckplate and string tree, but I am just about there (especially given I need to sand out a pair of runs on the back and reclear the body, as well as finish the neck)....
Crime doesn't pay. Neither does lutherie...

That looks very cool. I've got a white 1 pup Charvel Star in my future as soon as $$$ is more plentiful. Can't wait to see the final product.

          I knew that was coming.

EVERYONE'S gotta be a comedian, huh?

That's the result of 3 screaming kids and Dad having the audacity of trying to take 10 minutes for himself...and then figuring out the 3-4 pics he shot all sucked after the fact...but then he had a couple beers and said "WTF, I'll post 'em!"...

Will have finished pics (and yes, better ones!) up next month...

That looks great! I´ve actually been gassing for a Star recently (against better knowledge since I know I´m not comfy with just about anything that´s big and pointy) and almost bought a Warmoth/ESP mutt in fire-engine red a few weeks back.

you'd be surprised (i was) at how comfy they are to play; especially sitting.

walnut is one of my most favorite woods in its natural state. Your project is looking very classy.. and that's coming from someone who is not a star body fan.
