What are you guys using for acoustic/acoustic electric guitars? I don't currently have a steel string acoustic (headstock was snapped on my Martin a few years ago and I never got around to replacing the guitar).

I'm willing to spend up to $1200.00 and would like something with a pickup already installed and a cutaway.

Not a big expert on acoustics, but the Seagulls I played were al very nice.

Fenders, Taylors, Ovation, and Yamaha all make great acoustics. I'm eyeing a Fender myself actually.

I've had Ovations and Adamas's since '76 and they are tough cookies (very stable and pretty much weather proof) and sound great as an electric acoustic.

Taylor all the way. You can get a 3xx series in your price range - fantastic guitars.

As much as I love the feel of the Ovation necks, the rounded back just isn't comfortable for me.

I'm going to definately check out the Taylors.

I saw a video demo of the Ibanez Steve Vai acoustic and liked what the preamp did, but several folks have commented to me that the set-up and construction were sub par for the street price on that instrument.

I have also heard that Tacoma has suffered since being bought out, but who knows-those sorts of comments seem to follow any buy out regardless of whether or not they or true.

              Thanks for the suggestions.

i have one of the green vai sig acoustics - it's a great guitar. matt hooked me up for a sweet price too. the newer one has the fishman aura system in it. it sounds quite good plugged in - not fantastic acoustically though.

I recently got a Babicz Identity Spider..very nice guitar. The neck is adjustable up and down so you can get the action you desire. After trying many acoustics, this one plays most like an electric, ie, very easy on the fingers.

:ROTF: Yeah, lately they have been uncomfortable to me. My gut is getting in the way. I'm going to lose some weight next year.

I suggest you take a look at Tacoma. Underrated and better bang for your buck than the Taylors. Do not get me wrong Taylors are excellent guitars but pricey. The Tacoma factory also builds the USA made Guild acoustics now.

Cool guitars until you need Warranty work..They suck on that part. I have an 1995 Collectors, the top was warping @ the sound hole, I sent it off to be retopped, they sent it back w/ an icecream looking stick glued to the inside..lmao.charged me $300.00 .I emailed and raised hell, they said send it back, we'll fix it..I have yet to send it, maybe next year..(Jan)
BTW, A Bud of mine had the same thing happen..He cooked his in front of his stove though..lol peeled the top right off...

wow, these guitars are wild, does that fan peg design really make that much difference?
the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives

According to their website, moving the string anchors spread out near the body edge allows them to use less bracing on the top, allowing the top to vibrate more and give more and better bass response. They also claim the longer string length contributes to the strings having a more 'buttery' feel.

The guitar does sound very good acoustically, and is the easiest playing acoustic I've ever had, so there must be something in their ideas!
