A few fridays ago I stopped by a local music store to pickup some strings. I noticed a few Parkers around. I thought to myself "It would be cool to own one of these someday". Never having played one I made it a point to try and go back there sometime to check them out.
Time goes by and my Soloist is seeming more and more difficult to play for some reason or another. I think a lot of it had to do with the large frets. I played a show with it and everything went fine but I just was not as into it anymore... too bad because that Soloist had one of the most amazing tops I have ever seen.
I went back to the store to try out those Parkers. After a while of playing, shooting the breeze with the store owner (see my thread about Parker quality for more info), I walked out with a big choice to make. I played a P-42 that literally became a part of me within a few minutes of playing it. I could not put it down and the tone possibilities were amazing. What I liked most about it was the neck. The thing played itself; any of you Parker owners know what I am talking about.
I was a little concerned about the quality issues I talked to the store owner about. I was a little concerned about how the Parker Stinger pickups would sound through my rig. I love the way my SLS sounded but I was really getting uncomfortable with the way it played. I was also a little hesitant to do anything because it would be tough for me to flip a handmade USA Jackson for Korean made Parker but after playing it, sleeping on the situation, and much prayer I decided it needed to be done.
I went back and traded them (I dealt with the store owner directly on this one) my SLS for the P-42, a nice hardshell case, some strings, picks, etc, and lifetime setups or so he said. I have no quality pics of it but I posted some live ones in a different section.
After a few weeks of playing it, gigging with it, and getting to know it, I am hooked. Absolutely %100 hooked on it and Parker guitars in general. The quality of this instrument is very high up there and I would venture to say that it ranks high for imports as far as the features you can get for the price you can get it at. The coil tap adds a lot to it as well.
I am considering picking up a PM20-Pro or a used nitefly in the distant future.
Jackson makes amazing guitars but I learned that they just weren't right for me after years of playing some of them. Thats not to say I will never own a Jackson again someday but for now I will stick with my Parkers. I am hoping to have another pointy Jackson someday because lets face it, we all need a pointy Jackson.
I will duck to avoid anything being thrown at me but I am sure there are some of you who have gone through the same thing.
