  • Jackson Styke Gibson?

Can anyone remember the name of the ultra rare model that Gibson knocked out in the early 80's to compete with brands like Jackson for the Metal scene (it was Strat shaped and even had the pointy headstock... not the rounded version like the Explorer)? I remember seeing one in a guitar magazine a while ago in an article about really rare guitars (hence the fact I can't find a picture of one anywhere) but my friend doesn't believe me that they ever existed!

    And on the 8th day,
God kicked back with a beer,
And gave that Jackson one helluva beating!

Epiphoen did some as well. The Epiphones are common. I'm not sure where you could find a gibson version. However I have seen Epiphone ones.

Gibson had an M-III I believe - semi-Strat-shaped (looked like an old Epiphone body, actually), maple board with black fret markers of some type (offset blocks?) and tortoise shell pickguards.

They also had the US-1 and another one I can't recall - one was designed by Wayne Charvel, the other by Grover Jackson.

A while back I almost had a US-1 but some ahole snagged it from me with a last minute bid. It went for under $700.

Ah Gibson's "Right guitar - wrong brand" models.

Here you go, the Gibson U2, it was designed by Wayne Charvel so the Charvel-Jackson link isn't as difficult to make.

Gibson also had the M3 with which they tried to crack the strat market.

Gibson's superstrats were as they themselves put it "A Player's dream" but for uncountable shop keepers they were also "A retailer's nightmare!"

The US-1 was like a U2 but with a flame top and ebony FB with split diamond inlays. Maybe someone has a picture to post?

How does the MIII play? I always wanted one, mostly because it had both a 3-way toggle AND a 5-way (which is a Mad Scientist like myself's dream )

I remember about 4 years ago, when I was looking into my first electric, I saw that Epiphone had a v style very similar to a RR, but i can't remember the name of it. I'll see if i can find anything.

EDIT- It was called the Demon I believe

I got the m-III pic from a thread in another forum, I've never touched one myself. The one comment I read on playability was that they found the neck "fast".

                        found another U2 on ebay.

Don't forget the WRC, another Wayne Charvel design. More late-'80s than early, though.
