      The term "Fat Strat" comes from the use of the phrase. I want a strat with a fatter tone. so Fender stole the ball that Charvel so well established and ran with it for thier own use. Now they really are hot rodded Strats. But still have that damned 9.5in radius board. Grrrr

              This is what I was referring to. If you scroll down to the '60's guitars, you will see references to the contour of the body being less "dramatic" AKA "fatter". That's what a Fat Strat is to me. http://www.provide.net/~cfh/fender2.html#strat The HSS was originally called a "Super Strat". Times do change and I give up.

                I've never heard of the other body shape being referred to as "fat". Just a different contour is all.
