  • Gibson has lost their freaking minds...

    Stick to guitars, guys....

Shop Gibson's ES semi and hollow-body guitars, known for their vintage style. These versatile instruments are ideal for every genre from jazz and blues to indie, alternative rock, and more.

"One of the most unique of the products to be displayed is the Signature Series Les Paul Standard 1GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive—the first in a collector series of flash drives that are miniature replicas of iconic Gibson guitars"

    Sweet. Not.

I wonder how long it will take ESP to copy these models?

Product line diversification. The electronics company I work for is doing it as well. We are primarily a cordless phone and radio products company, but have branched off into GPS, digital cameras and hopefully soon LCD TVs. I can understand why they did it, but I think there was probably a better choice that could have been made in branding. Gibson is a top shelf name, but that does not always sell product.

Product line diversification is what destroyed Norlin in the 70s. History repeating itself?

I always said:"When you buy a Gibson guitar then you will pay at least 60% for the name(Gibson)..."
                    So Gibson sold out ;P

Well one thing I left out as far as reasoning goes companies will diversify their lines when they see a market start shrink. That's why the company I work for is doing it. That and since Apple did the ipod it has opened companies eyes to the possibility of marketing a crossover product that probably wasnt what people might expect and then really cashing in.

I dont see anything wrong with this, as long as they make a good solid product and dont charge and arm and a leg for it, I would buy it, hell give me one of those flash drives, show people my pride in a company.

Looking forward to seeing that at NAMM.

Oh wait - I'm not a dealer so they won't let me in their display room.

                              Oh well.
