Product line diversification. The electronics company I work for is doing it as well. We are primarily a cordless phone and radio products company, but have branched off into GPS, digital cameras and hopefully soon LCD TVs. I can understand why they did it, but I think there was probably a better choice that could have been made in branding. Gibson is a top shelf name, but that does not always sell product.

I always said:"When you buy a Gibson guitar then you will pay at least 60% for the name(Gibson)..."

Well one thing I left out as far as reasoning goes companies will diversify their lines when they see a market start shrink. That's why the company I work for is doing it. That and since Apple did the ipod it has opened companies eyes to the possibility of marketing a crossover product that probably wasnt what people might expect and then really cashing in.Last edited by Jason1212; 01-13-2007, 04:15 PM.
