  • Killer GMW coming soon!

I was talking with Lee about my guitar on order the other day and pestered him some more about this project I knew he had going. He relented and sent me some pictures and also gave me the OK to post pics of the guitar even though it's not 100% finished yet.

It's a mahogany body with a flamed cedar top with inlaid quilted maple hot rod flames with hand inlaid abalone trim on the flames. If I didn't already have a GMW and a Jackson CS due to arrive and require payment shortly, Lee would probably be getting a $3500 check from me. I love HRF and this is just stunning. Enjoy!

I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

That is damn amazing, Tim. A little too much "bling" for my tastes, but damn amazing. Lee does great work.

...But $3,500, huh??? Those are some pretty hefty option upcharges!

That is awesome. Salmon fillet or not. His prices are starting to look like Charvel's prices!

Get a quote from Charvel for that and then come back to me

Assuming the customer was getting a reasonable discount from list price, wouldn't be much more than $3,500. Maybe a couple hundred-ish more or so.

Increditable work on that! I love it. I probably wouldn't buy one for myself, but it's always cool to look at.

I don't want to start a pissing match over this but I don't believe for one minute that you'd get a street price less than $4500-5000 for this out of J/C. That wood work and abalone inlay work is extremely labor intensive. Look at a the new the graphic finished guitars coming in at $8000 - $14,500 list price. A plain black Mike Shannon signed pointy Strat is $5500 list! We're talking about a shop that is asking for $150 to install a kill switch (which GMW does for free BTW).

Wasn't looking for a pissing match either, Tim. My earlier comment was totally in jest.

Don't know where you're getting $8k to $14.5k list prices from, though. That does not jibe with the Charvel price list at all. With all due respect, it seems like you're pointing out a few whacked-out special model or one-off "exceptions to the rule" to exaggerate things and support your point. Looking back to the Charvel price list, though, the most expensive listed graphic upcharge (tribal flames) is listed as $1,600. Base is $3k, so where's the other $3,400 to $9,900 in options?

That's a rhetorical question, Tim. Not really looking for an answer - just pointing out that the figures being thrown out there ain't anywhere near what I've seen on custom orders. Is Charvel high? Yep. And would a Charvie spec'd out like that GMW be expensive? Yep, too. But not anywhere near what's being quoted here.

Anyway, back to topic. That GMW is the s**t. What kind of trem is that? Looks pretty similar to a gold Fender Strat trem? Just curious.
