Has anybody here every played a Steinberger? I've gotta say, this one has me pretty fascinated. I'm always hesitant to order guitars online since I like to try a bunch of the same model and pick my favorite of the bunch (when possible). But the spec is certainly nice for the price...

Back in the late 80's and early 90's I had a Newburgh era gold top Steinberger that was outstanding. It had the S-Trem and passive Duncans in it. I played it all the time and took it on travel with me.
About 4-5 years ago I picked up a Gibson era TransTrem GM with active EMGs and a sweet quilt top. It played great. The TransTrem is a pain in the ass to setup. That guitar sounded like canned ass. It had about as much mojo as a teflon cutting board.
Last year I got an original Newburgh era TransTrem GM with EMGs. MUCH better guitar. It felt better and sounded dramatically better. It still wasn't for me though.
I'd like to have one of those old ones with the S-Trem and passive pickups again.I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.
