It's my favorite and most versatile Strat I have and I have quite a few. I play so light on the frets that I don't even know there there except for pressing to get a little bending going on. Mine is a US, maple board, vintage white. Awhile back I changed the Pup covers and pickguard to vintage white and Parchment respectively to look better for the period intended.

I don't know, I might take it in for a setup and see if that fixes some of my problems. I have 8's on it now, which are just too wimpy IMO. I've tried using 10's on it like I do with my other guitars and they were extremely uncomfortable. Made bending or even wide vibrato very uncomfortable.

You might try a set of lights (.009-.042) or a Heavy Bottom Skinny top like Ernie Ball (.010-.052) makes, if you like the lower strings a little heavier. Check your action, intonation and your bridge. I think the 9's is a happy medium and a good balance for that neck. The 8's are way too light IMHO with that tight Fender radius fretboard. I know reportably YJM uses 8's, but have heard elsewhere that he uses a .009 on the high E. Everyone's touch is different. With 8's I would pull the high E right off the fretboard, frets 12 and up if I'm not careful.

"slappy, slappy" bill sings, happily, as he dick slaps random people on the streets of Cleveland.
