It amazes me how much crap can come out when Gibson is brought up here. You guys fight more about this than on the Les Paul Forum, where Jeffs concensus is more the norm than hippytims. Gibson now sees The Standard is an entry level guitar. They want you to buy the RI's. That alone is enough bullshit to keep me from buying a new one...
Either way, do you guys hope to change each others minds? Come on, you guys cannot be that stupid. So what it has become is "I don't believe you have the guitars you have, post a picture" bullshit? Whatever...
If you like them, buy them. If not, don't. Nuff said...
I'd like the answer to Jacks question as well. That's what I've been waiting for, not slapfighting...I'm angry because you're stupid

Bengal, all I've ever asked is where are all the crappy Gibsons. I can just tell you that when I walk in to Gutter Center all the Gibsons there are just fine. I've never bought a Gibson mail order so maybe that's where they're going.
A few years back when I went to buy my '54 Historic I went to Music Machine in Easter Washington who was at the time one of the biggest Historic/Custom Shop dealers in the country. They had about a dozen 54 Historics. I played them all. As well as a half dozen 56 Historics, 3 or 4 Oxbloods, a handful of the 59's, and a couple Cloud Les Pauls. One guitar had a bad pickup - it turned out to being a bad solder joint. That's it. Out of 30-40 guitars that I played there wasn't a single flaw that I could see. They were simply fantastic.
They were not all perfect clones of each other though. They clearly had their own different thing going. I ended up in a room with several 54's and went back and forth until I settled on one that felt and sounded the best to me.
Unfortunately Gibson's asshat business practices with online sales and all that shit that went down a few years ago resulted in Music Machine no longer carrying Gibson instruments.I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

I've bought 2 LP's from MF. Both were fine. Sure the Wine Red Deluxe had more orange peel than I'd like but it was around the neck joint only so I kept it. The Raw Power I bought was flawless, should have kept that one. I have seen some pretty crappy LP's at the local GC. But I wouldn't put it at 75%, maybe more like 20%...
And the policies that you mentioned are enough reason to boycott Gibson under the current management. So ad that to the pricing and they have lost me for a while. I'll keep playing my H80 Reissue, I guess...I'm angry because you're stupid

I do have a question for Jeff though. In one post you point out that alot of the LP's on ebay are lemons that people are trying to off. Then in another post you said that your guilty of getting 60 or something LP's a year or buying them at closeout and selling them on ebay as well. So, do you fix these lemons before selling them on ebay? Or are you doing the same thing that every one else on ebay is doing, according to you? If your just passing the buck, that's no different that what you hate about Gibson...
Just wondering...I'm angry because you're stupid

The Gibsons at GC are not usually Historics - at least not in Raleigh. I was talking about the standard stuff.
As for boycotting Gibson, there is a long line of companies that are way worse than Gibson.
I do think they're too expensive. I wouldn't pay the advertised prices. You should have no problem getting a LP Standard under 2k at GC - you'll have to haggle but I doubt it would take much effort.I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

You guys kill me. If I am going to fork over big bucks on a guitar, I will touch it, feel it, beat it off, and make damn sure it's worth it. Yeah, I dick around with cheap guitars. You all know that. But, this "Ship me this or ship me that a Gibby" is just BS. If you want a perfect carrot you have to feel it.
I am a true ass set to this board.

Gibson has alot of problems. Granted a good Les Paul is a nice guitar, but finding the good ones just isn't easy. One might think at the current pricing everyone would be made to an exacting standard but unfortuantley not. If someone covered up the headstock on the average Gibson Les Paul, one might confuse it for a $375 knock-off.
The problems are well documented in a million threads on every board. Some people just won't believe it. Brainwashed, ignorant to the facts or just plain stupid, I'll never really know? Truth is many people blindly accept a Gibson Les Paul to be "the standard" for a high quality guitar and that's a total myth! It makes me money but it's a complete myth.
If the tide ever completely turns and people are like "quit shovelling out the shit were not paying for crap", my response will be "about fucking time!". If people keep drooling over them, then I'll keep recreationally selling them on Ebay and making a few bucks.
It's a win-win situation for me.

My LP has the the logo where the dot for the "i" touches the G.....not sure how long they used that one. Also, a good friend came over last week with his 1977 LP Custom that he has owned for 20 years of its life. My god that guitar is sweet to play......like butter and still has the balls to stop a charging rhino!
