I'm curious as to why the bottom of the photo showing the truss rod cover is cut off where it is? It probably has 2 screws like most of the other fakes have. Interesting place to crop the photo?

hmm no i had no intention cropping it there.. i didnt even know its fake and i couldnt care less because its not my guitar..

and lol i just noticed the gibson too
i'll ask him about it.. he probably knows its fake, he didnt tell me anything about it i just assumed its real due to the serial number and made in u.s.a mark
If the crowd is shouting for an encore, but the sound guy is shaking his head, ignore him and play anyway

All in all, it's a pretty sad state of affairs with all of these bogus copies. I really hope you teacher didn't pay a real Les Paul price for this. That would really suck.

And I feel sorry for you, because you still haven't experienced a real LP yet. I have a DK2, and I have 4 LPs. I don't really prefer any one guitar over another. They are all pretty good, but my #1 is a Les Paul.

The headstock size is wrong. The logo looks like a 50's logo not a 96 that the seriel number states. The stamps are way too deep and clear. You have to strain in light too see the Gibson stamps. especailly the seriel number on the new ones. Although Gibson has done gold hardware and binding on studios and Standards. but niether of them had triple bound headstocks. I have seen some studios with block inlays but not stds. Its deffinatley a Chinese fake. I hope he didnt pay more than 200 bucks for it. Poor guy. The tuners look right for grovers but are porbably the Korean version used on the epis. etc.. Also the open book on the headstock is way off. The ends are too rounded and the center is the wrong angle. EEEEEEK . run away run away.. sorry i had visions of the killer rabbit.

In addition to what I and others have already said, LP Customs never had the "Les Paul" signature on the head stock. It should be a split diamond MOP inlay as shown in the photo below.

It’s definitely a fake and not a very good one at that.

Yep, it's a fake. A few months ago, there were tons of them on eBay with those exact stampings. "Made In USA". Another planet maybe:ROTF:

You need to get your hands on a real Les Paul!

Michael - what kind of copy do you have?

That guitar is to Gibson as pizza is to Chinese food.

this is one of the funniest threads I've ever read here.

sad, though, that your guitar teacher got F'd with a chinese fake. and there's no way that he knew it was a fake if he's loaning it to you saying you need to play "a real LP" like in your initial post.
the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives
