Fairly new round here so can't post pics yet, so here's a link to my 1995 LP with 'Gibsun' logo:

Yeah all the logos have the gap in the O, it's just the way they route them. Both of mine have a gap in the O, and I know their legit.
And yes, Gibson has factories in China, but they only make Epi's.

I would probably rather have a fake Les Paul, just because a lot of the copies (edwards being the best one I can think of) are better then the real ones.

Are you serious. You must not have played many USA Les Pauls!

That was a really dumb comment. It proves he has never owned either because they are very different.

Yeah I second that. Nothing beats my heavy ass old custom for rhythm. Or I third or fourth it anyway

If you got that from ebay, then it is most definately a fake. There was a thread on it. :S Anyone remember?

The Edwards LP is a lot of bang for the buck...

                    BUT...

Like it or not, the King's Crown will forever rest upon the "Gibson" Les Paul, deservingly so, and that's just the way it is bro.

I've played Orvilles, Edwards, Epiphones, Ibanez "lawsuits," and as good as some of them were, they didn't hold a candle to my Gibson Classics, Standards, Supremes, and Customs. Having said that, not every Gibson is a jewel. I've played some real toads before.

I'll go out on a limb and say that's probably what the guitar in question here in the original post is... Chinese Epiphone with just a Gibson logo

I dont think Epi's print their serial numbers that deep though, or put made in the USA on them :P Likewise I dont remember an Epiphone with that color combo (binding, body, knobs, fretboard). Plus if its 4 times heavier than your Dk2... Les Pauls arent light but they arent nearly that heavy.

I think the Epi's are actually better made than that....I originally thought the pic was of the guy's fake, not the teacher's supposedly real one!!

I've owned/played/seen many LPs over the years- I currently have 2 Customs- one a 1979 Nashville in Tobacco Sunburst and the other is a rare 1977 Kalamazoo with maple fretboard and natural finish with period-correct vintage DiMarzios. My second guitar ever was a 1976 LP standard that I bought in 1979 (second owner) for $450! Wish I still had it- I put DiMarzios in that one, too. Pics: http://www.myspace.com/mr_lizardman

I'd have to say I like my LPs as much as my Jackson USAs- They are heavier as well as more expensive- but there's just something about a Les Paul....something amazing and awesome when you consider the players that have used one over the years. Just holding one in your hands feels like a religious experience! Like holding a Rhoads and thinking of where it came from- Like shaking Mario Andretti's hand standing next to an Indy car on the track! It's as close as most of us are ever likely to come to meeting God in this life!! (God not being used as religion specific but as a term describing amazement, awe and wonder- I'm not religion centric, so use Allah or whatever name/word you prefer)

Sakeido just doesn't get it, I'm afraid....Someday maybe, but that day is not today....there is no such thing as a crappy LP, just some better than others. Just look at one and you can see the quality oozing out of every orifice! Everyone should have one at least in their collection- along with others like a Fender Stratocaster, IMHO....

For you who are curious, there is a lot of great info on collectable Gibson, Fender, National, Gretch, Martin, and a few others I'm forgetting here:
