Mine is a 1993....bought it new and it is my favorite guitar.
I do think that buying guitars on the Bay is a a risk however that is why there are many good deals. I agree that if your going to shell out big $$$ for any guitar your better off buying one you can inspect and play first.
As for Gibson, I get no sponsorship money from them so to each his own.

Granted that just a few examples, but these were all guitars that were worth full price according to Gibson. Would you plunk down $3800 for a Class 5 and then send it out for a re-fret?
Truth is..most of what they put on the market has flaws and problems. I like LP's and I've been playing Gibson since I was 16, which is why I couldn't be more disgusted by what is happening. The price is ginormous and, in the majority, the craftmanship is horrendous.

My LP has the the logo where the dot for the "i" touches the G.....not sure how long they used that one. Also, a good friend came over last week with his 1977 LP Custom that he has owned for 20 years of its life. My god that guitar is sweet to play......like butter and still has the balls to stop a charging rhino!

Jeff, where are these bad Gibsons being sold? I don't run across them and I'm at a lot of stores regularly. I'm pretty picky about guitars so the sorts of things you are talking about would catch my attention. Matt's Music carries the Historic/Custom Shop stuff and according to him the stuff has been fantastic.I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

ok,.. I can understand ya being a tad pissed about things Jeff..(bad Les Paul day?) but don't post a pic like that again. The last thing I need to see upon the first 10 minutes of waking up before I've had sufficient coffee to even type a response is that crap.
Tim is quite knowledgable about serveral aspects of gear.. we're not just talking guitar ownage-which he likely has a pretty decent sum tied up in, but computer related peripherals, effects, amps etc.
I may not always agree with his opinion on things.. I do respect his level of knowledge and experience that he brings to the board.
He has valid points on this subject with you when you aren't trading schoolyard shots.

On the other hand some are fine..just an unpopular color (latte creme)
Try this: call up a dealer and say "I want to by 60-80 or more Gibson, Charvel, Jackson and Fender Custom Shop guitars per year, what can you do for me?" See what kind of pricing you get.
I get a return policy for what I don't keep or sell. Helps them out by getting rid of the sludge and supports my "habit". There are many Gibson dealers that don't want to re-manufactur guitars that are "good enough"and Gibson will NOT take them back. Look at the label on your '58 RI box. It say "attention dealers: unauthorized returns are subjet to a 15% restocking fee"...right?
I see a ton of guitars brand-new right out of the box and some people want to argue......Last edited by Jeff Albertson; 05-12-2007, 08:55 AM.
