Sorry for the twenty questions, but are the back and neck painted? Any chance of a picture? And did you have a choice? Was the colour "QSS - Umber Stain w/ sunset burst on Quilted Maple"? If you can also tell me what horse is going to win the 4:40 at Doncaster tomorrow, that'd be great!
If you hear a screetching noise, that's me slamming on the brakes. I'm in the process of getting quotes for a seven string semi-custom Jackson Stars, as I wanted a neck-thru 7 string, but not at Jackson's custom shop prices. Carvin never even crossed my mind, but after looking at your guitar and then the prices.... wow. All I can say is that I better stop looking in this section of the forum.
Congratulations. That's a beautiful guitar...
the back of the neck is tung oiled but the body is finished. You have that as an option.
the color is Burnt Umber with sunset burst edges.
here's the back

It really is a stunning guitar. It's mad that the "sunset burst edges" makes such a difference. The standard burnt umber looks almost like a natural finish. Burnt umber with sunset burst edges is like a perfect version of tiger-eye.
Rooting around sevenstring.org, unless I'm mistaken, you specifically asked for a particularly figured top. Is that right? Well, regardless, you got it!
Simply awesome guitar. I'm impressed (as you may have guessed!).

Thanks, and yes Jim777(over on SS.org, here too I think?) has a DC727 and he told me that they keep crazy good wood off to the side and unless you ask for it they'll just give you the usual.
there's no upcharge for asking for crazy good quilt or flame either.
all you have to do is ask..............pretty cool
I just restrung this 9's too, so I have to see if I like that light a gauge on here.
the tension is definitely better, but it also could have been the elixirs.
Need to do some experimenting.
I took it to my friends house today and ran it thru a Marshall DSL power and with a Jmp-1 preampin front & thru 2 4X12 cabs with greenbacks and it sounded great.
the Carvin pick ups definitely sound better in an all mahogany body.Last edited by kmanick; 02-13-2007, 11:49 AM.If this is our perdition, will you walk with me?

You know Pat, I never had either, it feels pretty
much like an oiled maple neck. I'm glad I went with that option, the gloss
that's on the body feels thick and I would've hated it on the back of this
neck. Alot of people over On SS.org said to make sure you get an Oiled
neck. Now I see why.Last edited by kmanick; 02-10-2007, 09:27 AM.If this is our perdition, will you walk with me?

OK. I got the priveldge of playing this guitar today. I will first say that I do not like 7 strings and I have not played a Carvin since about 1989, but damn, this is a killer and I mean killer guitar. All mahogany construction - heavy, but not crazy LP heavy. The neck is mahogoney too, just the board is maple. Best part, unfinshed neck like all my favorite Charvels. Sounded huge too (I guess people dump on the Carvin stock pups, but through a B-52 and 5150, it was awsome). Delivery time and price are tops too. All I can say is, if I were going to buy a 7 String, it would be one of these (I mean, the GD thing has a floyd!!!!!!!).
It smokes!"I''ll say what I'm gonna say, cuz I'm going to Hell anyway!"
