I've decided to buy a two hum, neck-thru 7-string electric. It didn't have to be cheap but I can't justify spending Jackson USA custom shop prices, so I started looking around.
I noticed that Jackson Stars have been doing limited runs of 7-string guitars in all of the Jackson shapes (RR, SL, KE and KV), so I contacted a dealer in Japan. After some language barrier confusion, I have a quote for a 7-string Kelly with, basically, USA select specs: trans. finish quilt maple top and headstock laminate, mother of pearl inlays and logo, Duncans.
It's not cheap, but, heck, you only live once and it'd keep it in the Jackson family.
I was lined up to put the order in when yesterday I came across kmanic's awesome Carvin DC727:
The upcharge for a 7-string Jackson Stars is far from unreasonable, but adding up the costs or Carvin's website, the Carvin would be 10-15% cheaper. If kmanic's guitar wasn't so beautiful, and Carvin didn't make personalising the guitar so easy, it wouldn't have made me hesitate in ordering the Jackson Stars.
As I won't get a chance to play an example of either one before I decide to order, I thought I'd seek wisdom the JCF. What would you pick? I'd appreciate any opinions/advice that anypne chooses to share.
