I get a kick out of the whole thing. Gibson just built a plant in China to produce Epi's there. The all the sudden bam! A gagillion Gibson fakes pop up on Ebay. If you look in the backround most have Epifoam boxes...Haaa.
When the chinesse grey market hit stride..there will be 400 fakes for every original. I will venture a prediction and say soon they will be skilled enough to eclipse Gibson current production standards---which are comical to begin with---in the next 5 years. Remember Tokai in the 80's...unbelievable. 200x better and 1/3 the price! Gibson's going to have problems....Fender, too. The only company I think might be "sort of safe" is PRS.
That whole country is like a supermachine. Tons of people all happy to churn out work for $0.03 per hour.
Learn to speak Mandarin now.

Yep, HC sillyness.
But, actually, I've heard rumors of both Gibby USA & Epiphone stuff being made overseas in the same plants. Then neck, bodies, and possibly other parts are shipped to Gibby Tenn for assembly, and called "made in USA".
This came from a knowledgable source. Still just a rumor, though, so take it with a grain of salt. And, even if true, I'm not sure I'd be upset by it. Esp. considering Gibby's quality reputation right now.

There is nooooooo way I'm going to defend Gibson. There has never been a larger collection of pudds building guitars than modern day Gibson. No soul, no respect...not making guitars...just profits. THe biggest operation in Nashville is the Artist relations/Public relations/Marketing dept. The guitar factory only exists because Zakk Wylde has to be holding something. Reminds me of a "wild west town" walk down the main street and it almost looks real.
Send in a resume to be a line worker at Gibson USA...see what they pay. It's double dirt pay and even that's not even cheap enough for them. I bet you'll see a lot of changes in the next 10 years and none will be consistant with "building fine guitars". So be it..I've bought my last Les Paul that isn't on ULTRA-SUPER-CLOSE-OUT bone cheap give away price.
Almost every new USA made LP now has a two piece back...WTF! Look at the BFG. You can't tell me that not made of scrap parts and trash wood. They were sitting around looking at a pile of substandard rosewood, weak warped maple, and hacked up left-over mahogonny. Someone said...hey...grab some of them clear plastic covers from the Goddess (must have sold 3 of those and two went to stone cold "BBW" lesbians), and a huge ass box of old NOS rejectoid PAF's. "Call the marketing department...we need a theme to sell this pig!"
It's all changing again. The bottom line is that the price of a quality guitar is going up waaaaaaaaaaaay up. They're focused on wringing every penny out of your wallet..look at the "No pics" policy. They want everybody to pay premium price for every guitar..wether it looks good or flamey or plain or whatever. No company wants to make a $X000 production guitar that isn't already bought and paid for....example: Charvel. Look at what happened with Jackson USA prices 3 years ago...BAMM!...instantly doubled. Up side...small luthiers are going to start popping everywhere with some interesting new creations. I'm ready for that.
Just glad that I picked up most of my good stuff before now. Other upside....you USA LP (or USA Jackson) just went up 40% on the used market!Last edited by Jeff Albertson; 02-14-2007, 03:16 PM.

It's always some guy with a broken headstock '97 Classic his preaching his wisdom to me on the LPF. Maybe, you should consider that there are plenty of folks out there that might know a little more than you. Don't go trying to kick me in the nuts here...I don't think it will fly; save it for the LPF! Are you still endorsing the BFG?

Dude, I could give a rats ass how many guitars have gone thru your hands ever. I never claimed to know more about guitars then you or anyone else and if you read my post you would see that it wasn't an attack. Go buy 150 more gibsons or whatever and that proves absolutely nothing beyond the fact that you can afford to throw a bunch of money around. And don't worry, I was giving my opinion, same as you were, not trying to kick you in the nuts, you do a good enough job of that on your own as it is
