I'm about to build myself a guitar

Well then a few months ago I bought a couple of pieces of cedrella from a former luthier who was selling his woods. And having played a couple of his guitars made from Cedrella I have a pretty clear idea on what kind of guitar I want to make from it.


This is a JayDee Custom Iommi SG, the guitar I based my ideas on. I own a Gibson SG so I have the refference material on how to built this. I am planning to make the guitar with a Neck through construction, figuring that it would be an improvement on neck stability. I have two options on how to make this work though


Option one has the neck made of Mahogany with Maple contrast stripes.
Option two has the neck made out of maple with no contrast stripes.

What do you guys think, which one should I go for?

I like option 1 better. The contrast stripes just really seem to help it out.

I would sandwich the maple between the neck and another thin strip of mahogany, like the first picture. If that's not possible, then I’d have to go with "option 1" also.

I'm thinking you need some Iommi crosses inlaid in the FB. Sumpin' like this:

I would do an iron cross. I'm sure it's been done. But those Iommi crosses throw off the "Balance".
