  • Gibson and ESP: Separated at birth?

Check this out, new Gibson LP Classic. Just saw it on the inside front cover of the new Musicians Friend catalog:

I don't know if it's just me, but it looks familiar to something else!

I dig ESP too. Good quality from the entry level on up...

But that Classic Custom is freakin' awesome. Something about a black Les Paul with yellowed binding...

Actually it was because I wanted an ESP Eclipse II Standard that made me look into ESP/Edwards and I ended up owning this.

But I'm really, REALLY digging the look of that Gibson LP Classic.

The biggest difference I see is this...

              Gibson - $4k list price
              ESP - $1,870 list price (+ case)

And the ESP probably has better QC.

Actually, I dig them both. The gold binding is a horrid look, IMHO. But, otherwise, they both seem very cool.

I'm really impressed with the quality of Edwards. I was at SummerSonic last year and ESP/Edwards had a booth set up. I got to play alot of them and they are fantastic guitars...

the bridge on the Gibson looks to me as if it's more slanted than the bridge on the ESP?

I don't know if the pickup is slanted. But the saddle piece is. So maybe that's why it looks that way...

The Gibson is way overpriced. I would take the ESP over the Gibson, but I really don`t care for the ESP body. So, my first choice is the Edwards Jack.

I owned the ESP Eclipse in the pic above. It was too bright for my tastes. It may look like a LP but it doesn't have the LP thickness and warmth.

Gibson finally decide to try to beat ESP at their own game. The Eclipse II VB is a balatant LP Custom knockoff. Gotta get rid of those '57 pups and slap in some EMGs though.
