I'm nout sure what I'd do with an 8 string but whatever it is, I think I'm ready to try.

Listen to Meshuggah and you'll see why they now use 8 strings. F, Bb, Eb, Ab, Db, Gb, Bb, Eb.

Most people would tune it to F#, B, E, A, D, G, B, E

Exactly, these are Meshuggah model guitars for some serious prog low end... Respect to them for making it work, I have no idea how to play like that but it's really cool to see some innovators in what is mostly a stagnant genre.

At Namm one of the Ibanez guys said he had a proto 8 stringer that was tuned low to high F# A D G C F A D.

Okay, this has just gotten ridiculous. Even though I don't really care for 7 stringers, I know some of you guys dig em, but this thing?...............It's really starting to look like someone's overcompensating for something.
