Yeah I like mine so much that I kind of want to get one of the new reissue-style ones to have around too...I dont like my Melody Maker as much as my SG though...

my 02 white Gibson V is kickass. the $1200 price point is worth it for the instrument I got. the paint is clean and the fretwork is 100%. it has mojo and I love it.

nice low action, the lowest of any of my guitars. to me that says quality.

guess I got lucky. maybe it's something more with the Les Pauls too, you see more complaints about those, and with the 2x+ higher price point, perhaps rightfully so.
the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives

I have to agree with Tim, I have a '03 R8 and a '03 Deluxe and they are both really nice guitars. There are zero quality issues with either of them.

I have to throw in gratuitous pics of my R0.

And after the addition of the Wolfetone Dr V's:

I wish I could take pictures. These really don't do it justice. And it sounds freaking incredible. I couldn't be more pleased with it.

You have a Deluxe?!? Like with mini-humbuckers?!? If so, you don't want it anymore. Instead of the Deluxe, I'm sure you would be much happier with one of these fine items instead:

I haven't seen all these crappy Gibsons people are ranting about either. I go into my local gibson dealer, or other gibson dealers when I am travelling and find lots of really good examples. I have found some issues on the odd 1 or 2, but nothing any more glaring then what I find on Jacksons, Deans, Ibanez or Fenders that I try out as well. Maybe I am not looking closely enough, but soundwise and playability are almost always good. I do agree that the marketing side of the company is pretty weak as is the way they treat the dealers, but then I can ignore that.

For as long as I can remember I've been partial to C/J and Gibson...but things are changing. When you buck up $3K for a hunk of wood it's needs to be done right, every part, every time. I don't know what Gibson is thinking...maybe "cash-in ASAP" before the market turns? C/J has been cranking prices untill they break the market...I hear it cracking now.

I think all these companies see people spending big dollars on guitars and they think they can just keep jacking up prices on the same old crap and we'll buy......that ain't how it works. PRS is the only one earning the cash there asking for.
                      PRS and Musicman!

                      • Yea laugh it up, you won't think its funny when you get one of Gibson's many lemons.

                        • even so, if one puts his/her lemon on eBay, they will get back most of the money. There are too many people unaware of the crap gibson is selling as long as they can show off to their friends..."this is a real gibson. just like what Jimmy page has".

Oh no denying that, there is probably no better guitar out there for investment. Conversely I may think Warmoth's are better guitars nowadays, but they can never hope to match the market value of a Gibson. You are lucky to get back most of what you paid on a warmoth, let alone make a profit. Though that is good for us buyers

                            • 3 of my 4 LPs came off of the bay (the R0 came from GC). My biggest problem is that they are all keepers. My wife wants to kick my ass

She's very happy I found Jackson/Charvels because they are a hell of a lot cheaper

I think the import shops are still keeping up with standards where as the US stuff they just let slide now. they'll sound a bit different but they are good guitars (and a decent substitue until you find a good US model (probably used)

Gibsons next week and report back. Heck Bizarre has em from $1699
