I don't know what shocks me more.
      1. Gibson throws a riducurousunbelievableoutrageslysupershocking price tage on "signature version" of a plain old Standard
      2. Peeps eagerly buck up for them.

I aggres with the suggestion. Grab yourself a '58 VOS...with your connections that should be around $2200. Even a plain old LP Standard with a profret job would be a good move for around $1800-ish.

I just can't see spending the money they want.

I picked up a Les Paul Studio in Blue Teal Flip Flop off E-Bay a couple years back and it had some junk pickups in it. I switched them out to Duncan Distortion in the bridge and Dimarzio Air Norton in the neck and it sounds great! It plays surprizingly good and I didn't need to spend a few thousand dollars as it seems the rest of their Les Pauls cost these days. If someone wants a Les Paul without spending a ton I say find yourself a Les Paul Studio

I first met Warren in 89, been friends ever since. Even tech'd for him on his solo acoustic tour. You won't find a more grounded person anywhere and an EXTREMELY nice dude. I'm heading to NYC to bring Warren an amp tomorrow morning and to catch an Allman Brothers Beacon show. I've been to over 100 Gov't Mule shows, as well as 75+ Allman shows. Been thanked on four Mule albums too. How cool is that? I'm also trying to get Proto #2 from Warren. We'll see how that goes

Mr. Graphic - that's awesome!!! I'm a huge fan of his. I've heard some bootlegs of his acoustic tour - unreal good . I have a killer version of Soulshine from that tour - that song still gives me the chills every time I hear it.
